Power Back on in Petworth

In Petworth, I lost power for about three hours and a huge branch came down in my backyard. How did you guys fare? Anyone else lose power?

  • Live wire at the intersection of New Hampshire and Allison Sts most likely caused much of the outage. This is the 3rd time this year that this intersection has caused problems.

  • Also a tree down in the 900 block of Shepherd seems to be responsible for at least a portion of this.

We were down from 3:15 to 7:00, but this is the first time in 4 years we’ve lost power for more than 5 minutes, so I won’t complain.

  • major signal problems on marc/amtrak trains trying to go between baltimore and dc. delays are over an hour…almost makes metro seem not that bad.

  • Our power was out for about 1.5 hrs on 7th near Upshur; we also had a couple small trees blow over near us on 7th and at 8th & Randolph (ones that were half dead already before the storm just snapped off).

  • My power was out but I don’t know for how long – I came home and left! I live a few blocks from PoP I think.

How long do people keep stuff in the fridge and freezer? I’ll be tossing some frozen fish, but yogurt?

I think that’s completely unnecessary. Food will probably last the better part of a day in a modern freezer. Did your frozen fish feel at all thawed? Power was only out in the Grant Circle area from ~3pm to ~7pm.

      • Thanks. No it didn’t feel unthawed, but the danger is it can refreeze … I’ll keep the yogurt but the fish was not very good anyway….

    • I also left to have dinner elsewhere, and by the time I came home, power was back on.

If you didn’t open the fridge or freezer during the power outage, everything should be totally fine. Those things are insulated to stay cold without constant electricity (notice how the fridge and freezer occasionally cycle on and off).
