Dear PoPville,
Since last month I have noticed two spelling errors on DC Parking Enforcement vehicles. Both occurrences show the last word spelled as “Enforcememt.” I submitted the first one (on a Honda Civic Hybrid) to dpw@dc.gov and received no response. I saw the second one (on a Chevy Colorado) yesterday afternoon.

You made SOMEONES day with that reply lol
Have you found Meetups to be fairly successful? I'm in a similar situation where all my...
Hard to improve on perfection. If it ain't broke...
I find it dry in the summer as well, but I think that's because DC doesn't get as many...
No surprise there! The spelling error OR the lack of a response.
In case there’s any confusion, call 311 for this, not 911.
Hahaha!
Me fail English? That’s unpossible!
Enforcememt is a perfectly cromulent word.
It embiggens us all!
Is that right next to the herd of meese?
If you get too embiggened, a debigulator could help.
+1
Not surprised when the person/group responsible for this most likely has, at most, a 7th grade education and spells phonetically.
I think I’m more disturbed that the DC Government is utilizing a truck for “parking enforcement”
Typically the trucks are used to carry multiple boots (both installation and removal) from what I’ve seen.
This reminds me of the sign by my office building’s bike rack that begins, “Bicycles Please Advise.” You’re asking for advice from a bicycle? At least it’s spelled correctly.
Wait, what is it supposed to say?
The full text says:
“Bicycles Please Advise
Bikes left over 15 days will be removed”
What they mean is, “Bicyclists Please be Advised . . . ” or something to that effect.
Absolutely ABSURD! There is NO excuse for this type of idiocy. A typical DC government production.
What’s ABSURD is your reaction. You might want to consider medication.
wtf?
you have way too much time on your hands
or…… maybe this person is just very observant
that’s one of the most pathetic cliches used as an insult.
observant, yes. but to take a picture and write a post in a blog about it??! ok, back to work for me….
not everyone can be as important as you.
It took all of about two minutes to take the pictures and write the post. Meanwhile, how much time have you wasted at work both looking online and typing your responses?
One of the utility companies sends out a bill to me every month addressed to me or the current occuoant. It has not been corrected for years. I think it is Washington Gas.
Haha, my old electricity utility back in Texas billed me as “Alissien” after asking for my information over the phone. I have never met anyone who spelled “Allison,” a very common name, that way.
Whats more shocking. That DC hires a company/contractor to do the work, likely pays premium pricing for it and gets someone who apparently failed out of 5th grade doing the vehicle detailing, or…
The fact that apparently no one at Parking Enforcement has the required 3 brain cells to rub together to notice it?
More likely it’s a government employee hired through a program designed to show DC school graduates there are job opportunities.
About as shocking as all the Metro Access vans driving around with this sign on the back doors:
“CAUTION: This vehicle stop at all railroad crossings”
Why? There are train tracks all over the area. Surely those trucks pass over them now and then.
Subject-verb agreement.
Just what if… the mistake was made by the contracting company. Somebody (either party) recognizes the mistake (either party), but they’ve already printed many decals. Contractor offers decals at 50% discount. DC says, hey we saved the taxpayers money- let’s buy some speed cameras.
then we need better people doing our negotiations.
That’s awesome. I’m going to send this into Failblog.
DC is so good that every time that I report bulk trash dropped in my backyard the inspector from the city give me a ticket for the trash.
If you request a bulk pick up in your back yard, of course you’re going to get a ticket. That implies it’s yours. If you report an illegal dumping and hold on to the confirmation number, should you receive a ticket in error, you have proof that it’s not yours.
This reminds me of an incident a few years ago, when I was working for an NGO in the Middle East, and we ordered signs for our office that said “No Weapons.” Except the contractor clearly didn’t have a grasp of English and printed “No Peapons” on the sign instead.
not at all surprising given the IQ of our government officials
On the topic of parking enforcememt…
Does anyone know if a sign or meter takes precedence when parking? For example at 18th and Florida NW there are brand new 1 hour parking signs that clearly state 7am to 4pm M-F enforcement however the meters located at these spots still say 9am-6:30pm M-F and 7am-6:30pm Saturday.
*rant I do understand that regardless of what the “right” answer is I’m sure to get a ticket at some point that I won’t end up disputing because it’s easier to pay $25 then sit at the traffic adjudication office all day
Is parking allowed at all from 4-630p?
@ah – yes, I’m referring to the metered spots on the north side of florida where parking is allowed between those times. It’s the south side of the street on that stretch where parking is not allowed during rush hour in the evening.
Looks like it was written phonetically by Donald from Fat Albert and the Gang.
Your parents must be so proud.
One other rant I’ve wanted to get off my chest: When the parking enforsememt vehicle takes up a legitimate spot to go on foot to write tickets. Or even worse, the dude is just on break, leaning his chair back and talking on the phone in a legit spot!!! Just park on a safe curb, don’t take a legit spot and get on with it. It is tough enough to find a spot in this city!!!!
Wow, you’re suggesting that government vehicles should park illegally? Most people get pretty bent out of shape when they see that happen.
And it took me 5 minutes to figure out what’s wrong with the picture. Long day, I guess…
Um, no… it means it’s easy to see how that could happen. It’s kind of amusing, actually. After reading these comments, you people are the ones that should be embarrassed, not Parking Enforcememt.
we just want a better city.
And how long have we lived in our city, exactly?
I couldn’t figure it out either…time to go home
Really? 2 misspellings out of thousands of vehicles? This is definitely worth all of our time
low expectations get low results.
I hate dumb people!
Hate is no good for anyone.
how about dumbness?
Why do you hate people who can’t speak?
When you get your ridiculous ticket. Argue that you didn’t think it was a real ticket bc the car that issued it
Had a spelling mistake
Budget cuts – they ran out of the letter “n” so they used “m” and hoped no one would notice.
Notify Department of Spelling Enforcememt
DC government is such a joke, blatant stupidity like this is why we have so much crime. Uneducated morons running the city are a legacy of past DC and will be voted out eventually.
When they get a flat, they can head to the place on NY Ave that is selling “Used Tiars”.
