800 F St, NW
A few weeks ago I shared some scuttlebutt about a Shake Shack coming to the Spy Museum. The Washington Post confirmed yesterday afternoon:
“The “flat-top” dogs, burgers, frozen custard and loooooong lunchtime lines of Shake Shack will be coming to the International Spy Museum in mid-2013.”
Back in mid-June we learned Zola would be closing at the corner of 8th and F St, NW. Shake Shack’s first DC location opened in May 2011 in Dupont at 18th and Jefferson St, NW (just off Connecticut.)

This is an upgrade. Better food at a small fraction of the price. Of course there is already Fuddrucker’s and Five Guys nearby, but Shake Shack is better than either, and it will be constantly packed as a go-to pre-movie / show destination.
Per DCist:
“Update, 3:50 p.m.: Actually, Shake Shack is going in at the corner storefront currently occupied by the museum’s ground-floor Spy Café, according to Edwin Bragg, a spokesman for the burger chain. The space is currently configured for fast-casual dining, so spatially, it makes a lot more sense than demolishing Zola’s fancy dining room. The address is still 800 F Street.”
Nice, I guess my original scuttlebutt had it right

mid-2013? Are they owned by Wagamama?
I’m unhappy about this…
Mainly because it’s a block away from my office, and therefore very, very tempting.
Really overrated. i was disappointed at the quality of the beef. the 5 Guys in that area isn’t great and Fuddruckers isn’t great, so they may still proper.
Oh boy, another over-priced, over-douchy hamburger joint, this is just what DC needs, especially in Penn Quarter.
On Tom Sietsema’s Washington Post chat today re: the actual Zola space —
“News flash: Mr. Bajaj just called to let me know that he’s acquired the Zola digs in Penn Quarter. The deal happened so quickly, Bajaj says, he has yet to think about what would work in that space. “I have to complement what I already have,” including the nearby 701 and Rasika, he says. Whatever he decides, his next concept won’t open until spring 2013.”
