From NBC Washington:

The shooter entered the building at 801 G Street NW [in the lobby of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian organization] at around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. He approached the front desk and said he was an intern before pulling a Sig Sauer 9 mm handgun from a backpack.

The guard confronted him, and they had an altercation before the shooter fired, striking the guard in the arm. Despite his injury, he gained control of the weapon and held it on the suspect.

Authorities found two loaded magazines with 15 rounds each in the suspect’s backpack, as well as Chik-Fil-A promotional materials, NBC4’s Jackie Bensen reported.

  • Good on that security guard. Probably saved some lives!!

  • I’m going to kill a bunch of innocent people because of a fast food franchise’s religious belief. What the *#@ is wrong with people?

  • Wait, promotional materials as in promoting Chik-Fil-A or materials criticizing Chik-Fil-A???

  • interesting. Just went to CNN and I had to search for this story but it’s the top story on Foxnews.com.

  • Floyd Jackie Corkins of Herndon is on FB and his friends are all in the military and/or went to Liberty University. Doesn’t look like a lefty.

  • 1) NBC 4 is probably the least reliable- they reported that the shooting occurred at the National Portrait Gallery for well over an hour.

    2) Good job by the security guard. Really shows how valuable carrying a firearm can be in this city. Just think or all the burglaries, robberies, etc that would be stopped if more, well-trained citizens were able to carry firearms. And, if a would-be robber were to get shot in a failed attempt to rob an armed citizen, you can bet crime would be significantly reduced as word got around.

  • It’s usually right wing crazies who shoot ’em up with guns. I, of course, knew there were left wing crazies, but not so many guns. Live and learn.

  • When I try to convince peploe that it is not that difficult to prepare meals that include my vegetarian daughter, they often look unconvinced. Dinners for my family of five often looks like today’s post.
