Fasil Becomes Uptown Ethiopian Fusion Cuisine in Shaw

1608 7th Street, NW

Fasil opened up at 1608 7th St, NW back in July 2009. Last week they’ve rebranded as Uptown Ethiopian Fusion Cuisine and have launched a new menu. Check out their new menu here.

    What’s the fusion?

“Uptown”? “Fusion”? Are they just trying to to use fashionable sounding words? They have a fish sandwich on the menu, I suppose that’s the fusion part. Amazing that so many Ethiopian places can survive.

  • Looks like a standard Ethiopian/Eritrean menu. Maybe the “fusion” is they’re serving it on small plates.

When they start serving a yemsir wat chimichanga, I’ll check it out.

  • Looks like they’ve incorporated a few non-Ethiopian dish to please squeamish eaters who are along for the ride. Maybe that’s the fusion. At any rate, I’m thrilled to see ANYTHING good happening on that block, so I’ll go to support them.

I’ve been going to Fasil’s for 4 years. Consistently good food at a very reasonable price. The service can be a bit wonky at times but it does add character to the meal. Has anyone ever noticed the loft that goes right across all the upper windows? Hard to see in the photo but it’s there.

^yes. The only danger at this location is being run over by a motorist from Maryland.
