You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or rejoice about daily life in DC.

but the vets who died gave you the right to voice your opinion. God Bless them
i'm guessing they put in some good sound buffering windows? fl ave is LOUD.
^yes. The only danger at this location is being run over by a motorist from Maryland.
Faison's writeups make me crazy. And not in a good "I'm crazy for buying this house!" way.
The Dancing Crab's commercials have to be the worst I've ever seen. The owners saying,...
RANT: The bitchy, eye-rolling colleague of mine started early this morning.
RAVE: As the recipient of such profoundly immature behavior, I am Ready. To. Rumble. But as an adult, I will do it at the gym.
RAVE: Wearing a new dress today! I love new clothes!!!
Rant: Still having sleepwalking problems. Seriously – I’m an adult and I’m still screaming in my sleep, punching whoever tries to stop me, and waking up to find myself in odd places. UGH.
Rave: Good weekend ahead – friends, family, yummy food, etc.
Rave: Mini golf at the National Building Musuem – has anyone gone yet?
Did you wake up on my porch this morning?
Wasn’t me. At least I don’t think so …
I haven’t left my house while sleepwalking in quite some time – but I have in the past!
Have you heard Mike Birbiglia’s bit about sleep walking? Hilarious and scary. I think it’s on This American Life episode 361: Fear of Sleep.
The sleepwalking scenes from Step Brothers are hilarious. That movie is one of my guilty pleasures.
Yes- Funny and scary at the same time! I hope I don’t have to end up sleeping in a sleeping bag with mittens on my hands like he does!
Are you taking kind of sleep aid? I’ve heard some horror stories of people taking ambien. Have you considered a sleep study?
I’ve been seen before and they tried giving me meds whose side effects supposedly stopped sleep walking but all they did was make me sleep 14 hours… Looks like I’ll be going back to the doc though!
Your sleep issues sound more severe than mine (weird nightmarey dreams) but I’ve determined my issue is dehydration and I apparently get dehydrated very easily which results in mild hallucinations. Now I always drink water before bed and if I wake up from weird dreams, more water. Seems to actually work for me but your results may vary.
so all I’ve gotta do is dehydrate myself a little and I get hallucinations? Time for a new pre-sleep routine.
Works for me. Never understood the appeal of hallucinations. No thank you.
My husband used Wellbutrin for sleep issues (off label), and it really seemed to help. His were likely PTSD related, though… don’t know if that makes a difference.
Rant: Not enough beach time. All the great ones are too far away for my short work leash.
Rave: 2 great interviews yesterday which both may lead to very cool & well paying jobs.
Rant: Political corruption. This is getting overbearing to hear about how DC Gov issues just get swept under the rug, and how fund embezzlers steal money they don’t have to repay. It’s better to not report it at all and just handle punishment offline if the punishment is a joke to begin with. Or maybe we should bring torture back like Iran, that would make for good reality TV.
Rave: I’m posting on PoP for the first time in ages! The weather is fab!
Rant: Another cold in six weeks. I’m never sick so starting to worry a little; fearful I might be developing allergies.
I’m fighting a summer cold myself right now. The nice weather is just mocking me right now
Feel better soon!
rant: the garbage that is called news these days… The one sided cheer leading and misinformation is no longer exclusive to Fox News.
Rant: DC politics
Rave: weekend is almost here!
Rave – Marion Barry-Lite, Vince Gray’s days in office are numbered. The gall of that man and his hand selected group of close knit criminals is astounding.
Bitch set him up?
I formerly worked for one of Gray’s consultants (one of the beneficiaries of the shadow campaign), and I can tell you there’s nothing “Lite” about the Gray/Barry relationship. Marion was there all the time and involved in campaign strategy. He was at the victory party and in the room with Gray when the race was called. He’s Gray’s mentor, and the District is so much worse off for it.
+1.
Don’t make excuses and say Gray is *Barry lite*. (Please only reserve *lite* for beers such as Miller or Bud.) Anyway, make no mistake about it, Gray is a Barry protege.
Mendelson’s response troubled me. Gray stole the election – that should be enough to cause him to resign. He cheated, whether or not it turns out he committed a crime. Also, is it possible for him not to have known? If so, he was either willfully blind or just stupid. Neither are very good. Do the honorable thing and resign Vince. We need a clean slate.
I opened my front door at 6:00 this morning to find a guy sleeping in a chair on my porch. Red hair, late 20s, clean cut, casually dressed. He didn’t look like a homeless guy. “Excuse me,” I say, “Can I help you?” He awakes and stares at me, not with hostility, more confused than anything. He stands up and starts walking toward me as though he’s coming inside. I raise my hand and say, “Stop, you don’t live here. Please leave.” He stops. I ask him to leave again. He walks down the stairs and heads toward the basement apartment. I say, “Don’t go there. You don’t live here.” He stops, looks at me, and says, “We’re serving a dish downstairs.” I say, “No you’re not. You don’t live here. Please leave or I’m calling the cops.” He says, “call the cops if you want.” He pulls out his iphone, looks at it, and leaves.
I’m not sure if he was crazy or high, but I suspect the latter. He didn’t strike me as dangerous, just very out of it. Hopefully he got home ok.
It’s a good thing he wasn’t a zombie
It was PPercy. He could no longer afford the rent on his condo.
..because the rent is too damn high?
Back in the good old days, all I had to worry about was gangsters. Now I also have shoo messed up yuppies off my porch.
I once found a guy asleep on the hallway of our former building – outside the trash room/near steps. He was clearly drunk/high and forgot his goal was “stairs, down, out”. I found him because his alarm was going off on his cell phone. I said, “excuse me, are you OK?” Like your guy, he was confused. I don’t understand the appeal of being so high/drunk that this happens to you.
I don’t think people in this situation intentionally set out to get that high/drunk.
One morning I found two two nice young white guys sleeping on my front walk. After waking them up, I found that they were my tenant’s freinds from out of town. Apparently they got separated from him, he went to his girlfriend’s, and didn’t tell them. They must have been really drunk to have been able to sleep on concrete with the mosquitos as bad as they were. But, they didn’t sleep on my chairs or ask to be let in.
RAVE: The fingers-crossed-hopeful Mayor Gray resignation soon!!!!!!!
Rave: 4-ish day weekend coming up (mainly 4 days out of the office, with some partial working-remotely)
Rave-rave-rave: FIFTEEN DAYS TIL CONDO CLOSING DAY! I’m still in love with the fact that we’re buying a huge 3-bedroom condo for less $$ than a 1-bedroom condo in a decent area of DC
This might be a first, but as of right now, no notable rants today!
Here is a petition requesting Gray to resign.
http://www.change.org/petitions/mayor-vincent-gray-resign-please-for-the-good-of-the-district-of-columbia?utm_campaign=mailto_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition
RAVE: New job!
RANT: Hours at a stretch with nothing to do while “training”
RAVE: Permission to “browse freely” while waiting for work to do!
RAVE: Turning over a new leaf………walked 5 miles last night, ate a healthy lite dinner…..got a full 8 hours of sleep. I feel AWESOME today!!!!!!
Keep up the good work!
Rant: I feel like I was hit by a bus.
Rave: I had a great night last night seeing my fave girl cousin, her cool husband and adorable baby.
Rave: Quotia Zelda and her awesome family were also there. I think a good time was had by all.
Rant: My older niece is 15 today! I am not old enough for a niece that age!
Happy Birthday Cricket!
If Vince Gray resigns, what happens? Does the vice mayor (deputy mayor?) serve out the remainder of Gray’s term? If so, who would this person be?
I believe Phil Mendelson would take over.
Yes, the city charter says that the Council Chair becomes mayor.
Interesting. Thanks for the info.
And Gray will end up with a WMATA management job.
Marion Barry becomes mayor immediately.
Bite your keyboard.
Rave: Looking forward to an outdoor run this afternoon
Rant/Rave: Spent about an hour last night starting on the spring cleaning purge of my apartment- clothes I don’t wear anymore, junk jewelry, old stuff from my ex will be all donated or tossed. Next up are books I won’t read anymore
Rant: I can’t get myself to focus on my FSOT essays…I have no idea what to write
If you want to donate books, MontCo library takes them in Gaithersburg – some place called Friends of the Library or something. It was fantastic, we just took them over and that was it! Hard to find, but worth the drive since donating books can be difficult.
They also gave us a tax return sheet, but I’ve since lost it (in case that’s important for some people)
There are also locations in Wheaton and Rockville — see:
http://www.folmc.org/bookstores/donations/
Idle Time Books in Adams Morgan will take used books in good condition (helping a local business out?), or the Arlington County library system will also take books (they have a mega-book-sale twice a year.. it. is. amazing.)
Are you serious? Why would donating book be difficult? Is it because no one is reading books anymore so libraries, schools, etc. don’t want them? I Love books!
I always donate to the Stone Ridge School. You can donate 24/7 and pick up your own donation receipt. Their book sale is epic!
http://www.stoneridgeschool.org/page.cfm?p=3405
This group hosts big used book sales to benefit DCPS:
http://www.turningthepage.org/?p=15
They take CDs and DVDs as well, by the way.
I’ll probably try to sell as many as I can on Amazon or the like. Otherwise, I’ll donate to whatever the easiest place is. I don’t have a car, and it would be best for me to not spend money on donating something…
Rant: What’s the deal with observational humor?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observational_humor
I love when people miss the point. Good one, Randall.
rant: coworker who never clears off the common work spaces because she’s “too busy,” which (a) does not pass the straight face test given her short work days and how much time she spends online shopping, (b) means other also-busy people have to spend time constantly clearing her stuff to have space to work, and (c) it would take her only 20 minutes to put it all away, and nobody is *that* busy they can’t find 20 minutes in a couple of weeks. Today I’m annoyed on behalf of a genuinely busy colleague who now has to spend a couple of hours or more sorting through her stuff, labeling it so after it’s moved she can find it, etc.
rave: today it’s not my problem.
small rant: I would actually take some satisfaction from having the job of clearing the space, I would clear it all straight into the trash.
Rave: Surrounded by fruit trees, tropical flowers and a wonderful breeze…
Rant: I can see the end of my vacation from this porch
Rave: Still a couple of days and opportunities for photos
Rave: Can’t wait to get in front of my computer and process them!
It totally sucks to be you.
Completely jealous.
Rant: Radius Pizza is closed
Rave: Radius Pizza is reopening in a couple months
Looking forward to another slice and a pint.
Rave: Oral argument today was so exciting!! Got to listen to a couple other cases too while waiting. I definitely love my job.
Rave: Uganda. I’ve missed it.
Rave: OMG, can’t believe Jackie blew me a kiss. My heart is still fluttering.
