You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or rejoice about daily life in DC.
Please be very careful in the heat today!

I'm not sure who all these people are who are suggesting to park at DC USA. I just...
Work across the street. Business never appears to be THAT good (ie saddest bar/club I've...
Sure, transfer the title, registration, and insurance to someone who doesn't own or drive...
Mat, Thanks again for your support; and your point is well taken.
"Used to live," not "used the live." I hate blackberrys.
I miss hearing the wild cats...
RANT: hate, hate, hate this weather. Please let it snow tomorrow. Please.
I actually had dreams last night about snow in the summer time….
+1000…not including heat index
I am watching the Weather Channel and they are talking about thunderstorms later today in D.C., Philly, and other east coast cities. I am hoping my power will not go out on such a hot day because it will take Pepco forever to restore the power.
Faints at my computer!
Rave: here is 84 degrees, 68% humidity and dew point 73 d
Usually that is a rant, but after reading so many complaints about DC’s weather…
Pabs, where are ya and can we come?
Haha
soon you’ll find out in the PoP t-shirt section
Amazing we’re actually burning natural gas today to make hot water! We should do better at gathering the sun’s awesome power.
Just one problem with that. If we heated all our water with the sun, it would certainly burn out sooner. Solar energy is not a renewable resource.
Whah???
^ victim of heat-related illness
Are you that woman in Arkansas who wrote in to the paper claiming that starting Daylight Saving Time earlier is a plot by liberals to make it look like global warming is real?
Two kids, indoors yet again, so BORED. Too hot to do ANYTHING outside. Ugh. Bring on October.
might have to go see spiderman.
Books – how do they work?
Look for a flat notebook size device that looks dead. Flick the switch and watch it animate itself. Find your book and let the wonders of technology turn the pages of magic for you. It’s great being a product of technology…
I’m usually scratching summer away as fast as I can for the heat and humidity. These days, upper 80′s/low 90′s sound good to me right about now. Everything is about perspective.
I went out early this morning to try to beat the heat today. OMG – smack! in the face from the heavy humidity. Dew point of 75!? Please go away dew point.
An impact winter sounds so very inviting right now.
Somebody I work with screwed me just for the sake of screwing me last night.
Was this a rant or a revel?
Well played.
Rant: having to take a last minute, somewhat expensive trip to Vermont to start cleaning out my mother’s house, which after 3 years, is finally under contract for sale (bonus RAVE).
Rave: gonna be soooo much cooler in Vermont this weekend
Rave: got a not-so-ridiculously priced ticket with a last-minute Priceline bid that landed me on Delta Shuttle, so at least the flights and layover have been comfortable.
Rave: it must be so hot in DC that you guys are really stuck inside, because for once the Saturday RRR actually has some traffic! Something to amuse me while in Laguardia…
Rant: Earl Gray
Rave: In the column of things DC does well – the Ft. Totten Transfer Station. I had a couple of garbage bags full of documents to shred. Searched the dc.gov site for bulk shredding and discovered that there is bulk shredding the first Saturday of every month. Apart from a relatively short wait in the long line to get in, everything went smoothly. And the folks working there had fantastic attitudes, given that they were working outside in 110 degree weather.
They are always amazing, and have been for years.
+1.
Rant: Had to call back a waitress at Lauriol Plaza who used the bathroom, flushed the toilet and tried to walk out without washing her hands. I called her back and told her to wash her hands or show me who her manager was. What pissed me off was the fact that SHE was pissed off that I demanded she wash her hands after using the bathroom. And you know what, even if she DIDNT use the loo, she was IN the bathroom. You wash damn hands anyway. That’s the last time I am going to that restaurant.
Oh….get over yourself! The cook does worse than that in your entree
so….that’s not sour cream, then?
hmmm your probably one of those people who brings food to work potlucks and no one ever eats it…
That. Is. Disgusting. Kudos to you for saying something.
I severely hope you got her name and have a Yelp account. Please copy and paste this on their Yelp page, please!
That place has never been good. Glad you said something, but that place is mehhHH
No need to act like someone else’s mommy, AnonnyMommy. The way to have handled this would have been to just talk to the manager about it. I take your point about basic hygiene but is it your job to correct that employee’s behavior or is it her manager’s?
+1 Tell the manager and quit being such a “mommy”.
great pic of the eastern mkt vibration. inspired by this pic i’m employing the wet towel from the freezer on the head air conditioning these days and nights
I can’t believe that I am actually looking forward to a Monday…only because this awful heatwave will be over.
Rant – Come on…just rain already. The weather gods are playing such cruel tricks on us.
Rave – “Ted” was surprisingly pretty funny. It’s like a 90 minute Family Guy episode…if you like that sort of thing.
I had an interview and a second interview for a great job and they said they would be contacting me soon…its been a week since the first interview- when can I send an email to follow up?
How long has it been since the second interview?
just over a week
