What's the Early Word on El Chucho's?

Anyone Know if the NationHouse Building Sold at Sherman and Park Rd, NW?

Looks like the for sale sign and symbols from the NationHouse building at 770 Park Rd, NW have been removed:

“NationHouse was founded in July 1974 in Washington, D. C. NationHouse grew out of the student activism of Howard University community in the late 1960s. We are one of the oldest independent Afrikan centered schools in the United States and in the DC metropolitan area serving the specific needs of children of Afrikan heritage from pre-school to twelfth grade.”

Anyone hear if the building sold?

According to DC property records, the building sold at the end of March for $1.675 million. The purchaser was Jonathan Zuck, a local photographer. Walking by the building the other day, I noticed the plywood had been removed from some of the upstairs windows and it looked like construction lights were hanging inside, so some type of work appears to be happening.

Can you post the website for the DC property records? I want to look up what’s going on with the building on the south side of Spring Road at 14th – the old church had been for sale there, and lately there has been a major gutting job going on.

    Trick for using this tax database: in the upper left hand corner (I think) is a 4 digit number – SLN (or something like this). In any case you can use that number in the search field to pull up ALL the tax records for your whole block.

Interesting. We always assumed that building belonged to some sort of cult.

I had a gig there once, and after we set up all out equipment, the band was told that I could not perform there, since I was Caucasian (the rest of the group was not). Apparently that was a long standing policy of the organization as a response to COINTELPRO and other programs attempting to infiltrate black nationalist organizations in the 70′s. It was interesting to be on the other side of the race coin for once, and certainly upsetting to me as an African-American studies minor in college. Definitely was a “thing that make you go hmmmmm,” in the words of one of the great poets of our time?
