The scaffolding has come down from the new building on 6th St, NE just south of H Street.

Do you like the way it turned out?

stick to your poverty bars
It'll take a while. After I moved a block down the road, a friend called me a week before...
*unfriend*
Ever read a police report, especially when you were a victim or witness?
My spouse...
A lot has changed in this neighborhood since you lived here four years ago. Sure the area...
While it doesn’t fit in with the neighboring row houses, neither does the modern building on the corner. I actually think it’s a funky transition between the old and the new. I like it.
Ugh-lee!
So….what is it?
Love it! Is that a single family home?
What a nice skunk stripe. FUGLY.
When was the last time you saw an orange skunk?
It’s not even original. Variations of the style are all over town. Seems better suited to a beach community. Anyway, gives me a headache and I say, “To heck with it.”
I like it now, but it will probably look date in 5-10 yrs.
Wow, that is horrible. Why didn’t they go the extra mile and just add a brick facade with minor detailing? The shape of the structure is spot on, but going
The grey stonework looks like cider blocks and the orange stripe doesn’t work at all.
I’m assuming you meant cinder block, not cider block?
And I assume you meant “concrete masonry unit” instead of “cinder block,” as cinder blocks haven’t been used for some time.
+1 on “The grey stonework looks like cinder blocks and the orange stripe doesn’t work at all.”
GO SYRACUSE!
I’ve always thought of myself as a traditionalist when it comes to architecture, but I guess I’m not cause I kind of like it. I agree with the poster that it’s sort of an interesting transition from old to new.
What’s that yellow tape? Is it crime-scene tape or construction tape?
It’s an Orange Julius promotion.
I like it!
Like it a lot.
Just make it the zipper it really wants to be! That would be fun.
Modern could have worked out, considering the area and being just off the main strip, but this is just an odd design. Maybe the inside is nice.
Pretty brilliant. Must have been so cheap to build with the CMU facade. And at least it keeps the window lines of the house next to it, which is rare.
it never fails to amuse me how much a non traditional building shocks people.
It’s not shocking. It’s ugly.
I’m surprised no one else has noted that it’s the exact same building that was built twice on 11th St NW between W and V. Definitely the same architect and most likely the same builder.
Ten years from now, those cinder blocks are going to look about as attractive as the raw concrete on all those enormous Brutalist buildings around town look today. On the contrary, I really dig the orange stripe. But it, too, is gonna look really dated before long.
Sorry, but no. That’s hideous
When feuding roommates divide an apartment, I thought the line was supposed to be painted inside.
I like the modern side with the orange strip and dislike the cinder block side where the main entrance appears to be. Bright colors make it pop IMO, although I imagine orange is unpopular as a traditional exterior color. The cinder block part just looks unfinished.
Needs more formstone
I kinda like the gray & orange stripe part (which is weird b/c usually I hate modern houses) but I don’t like the dark gray brick they chose to go all around it. Not sure what the alternative should be, but it doesn’t seem to fit.
I agree. The thought wasn’t bad but the execution doesn’t seem to work, at least not for me. Sort of seems they went with a cheaper product for the darker grey masonry than the plan may have originally called for.
Gag….
Blech. The Haverty’s Speed Dating Chair Girl probably likes it a lot.
LOL I LOVE THAT COMMERCIAL. For zero good reason.
I like it! I think it’s kinda fun, hip, modern. Love that the color goes all they way from the bottom to (looks like) the very top. They definitely won’t have a problem telling their guests how to distinguish which house is theirs.
Like it fine– in this market… I’m asking– wth is it and how much does it cost? When can I move in?
The color orange is the problem. Has the air of an East German Olympic village. Better red, or blue, or yellow. A primary color! Orange is not gutsy. It’s flat. Blue would work.
I believe this same investor/owner is building a few of these orange striped “gems” around NOMA/NE.
Love it! and I’m fairly certain it’s 2 condos.
