Update from MPD:

On Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at approximately 7:15 the adult victim met up with the suspect in order to sell an expensive item. The adult male suspect looked over the expensive item and then punched the victim in the face with a closed fist. The suspect then grabbed the item and fled the scene.

Today at approximately 7:37, the suspect in this Robbery was stopped by members of the Third District Robbery Tactical Unit. A short time later a positive identification was made and the suspect was arrested for Robbery Force and Violence.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his face and was treated by the Ambulance. Unfortunately the expensive item was not recovered at the time of the suspect’s arrest.

This is a safety reminder, when selling expensive items over the internet please meet the intended buyer in a safe and public space!!

  • But go ahead and throw caution to the wind if that you’re selling is cheap!

  • Allison

Props to the cops, that was fast!

  • Was this the assault/robbery at Harriet Tubman School?

  • Since he was an adult and will likely be out on the street in seconds, how about a photo of this guy so we can all avoid him while walking around Columbia Heights?!

  • The MPD does not generally provide identifying information for people who are arrested, and I can understand why, given that they have not been found guilty.

But the public does have strong safety interest in knowing who has committed violent crimes. After a defendant is found guilty, we should have easy access to all identifying information — including mug shots.

  • If the parking lot of an elementary school with a number of passers-by is not a safe and public place, I’m not sure what is…Starbucks? Is that where our society has gotten?

As I think about it more, Starbucks *is* a place for buying expensive items.
