House of the Day

Another great one from R St, NW west of 9th Street. I particular love the contrast to the houses around it:

This is 917 R Street NW. Numbers 901-917 were built together in 1875. This one was actually identical to 901 (the other end) and 909 (the middle one). The remaining two groups of three were also identical to each other, giving this set of 9 rowhouses a visually appealing pattern. 901 was rebuilt a few years ago after being allowed to decay substantially. The 2-story mid-1880s neighbors to the west certainly offer stylistic contrast.

Which house are you talking about (the tall one with blue detailing)? that is in contrast to its neighbors? They all seem to be somewhat complementary in the picture. I can only guess the one I suggested since it is both taller and painted with blue trim details. Unless you’re talking about the bottom photo to the right where the house is cut off but is painted a different color scheme altogether?
