1300-04 Rhode Island were built in 1876-77 for an estimated $25,000. By 1892 they were out of style, so at that time the owner of 1304 had a new facade and an extra story added. (Is that an added crawlspace up there or a full 4th floor or what?) Good move. That was the heyday of grand facades and this kind of decorative stonecarving, which disappeared entirely around 1904.
