I’ve posted about this event in the rant and rave comments, but I do want folks that live in this section of Petworth to be aware – there has been a serious uptick in street activity in the area between Grant and Sherman Circles this spring and summer. Several incidents of what appears to be rival crews facing off between Webster and Allison. Please, please call 911 if you see this happening. It generally starts as a group of 5-6 guys walking together, and another group approaches with words and signs of aggression displayed. A group of guys that hang out at 5th and Allison may be involved. I have not seen any weapons but I knew it was inevitable that someone was going to get killed. On Friday night I called 911 due to a fight on Webster between 5th and Illinois. Let’s not let this type of behavior take over this neighborhood – there is way too much good going on right now!

  • Any description of the people/crew you see? I’m all about cutting this off as soon as we can (I live nearby) but I’m not gonna call the cops every time I see a group of 5-6 dudes walking by. I haven’t seen anything shady, but will keep an eye out.

Note I said another group of guys Displaying signs of aggresion. I am no expert on street gangs, but I have seen a distinct change in behavior in the young men hanging out at 5th and Allison.

  • Good to know. I live in that section of Petworth & I’ll be more aware when out walking.

  • It’s no doubt been escalating since 2-3 major recent changes in the neighborhood dynamic. Wish guns didn’t have to get involved.

  • Via homicidewatch, I just spent a few minutes reading the victim’s boyfriend’s twitter feed. Confirms that he was “in the game”, fwiw.
