What an odd comment. Has the Washington area become less affluent over the past 5-6 years? I was under the impression that it has grown economically, unlike any other region, New York and it's suburbs have remained stagnant with some dip in it's economic development.

Although the building is gorgeous, as a mom I suddenly discovered how extremely inaccessible and outdated this building really is on the inside. Challenge: getting in and moving from floor to floor with a stroller or wheelchair. You have to go to the other side of the building, get buzzed in, roll right past their priceless archive of stored art, be escorted to their apparently one and only elevator, a huge old thing for lifting sculptures that requires an operator. Feels like your are behind the scenes, but also in the Addams family mansion or some old crumbling hotel in Rome. Repeat between floors. It's a joke.

It pains me to say this, but they should probably think about moving to New York City, where there are still plenty of extremely wealthy people who are willing to patronize the visual arts.

And the lack of thought that was put into the design of that statement letter is sadly very telling of the state of their programs today. I wish them luck.
