From an email:
Next week (Wed. April 25th) my office along with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is doing a memorial stair climb at the Washington Hilton in Dupont (1919 Connecticut Ave NW). Participants pay a $25 fee, climb 110 flights of stairs in memory of a firefighter lost on 9/11. NFFF gets the proceeds. For more information on the Foundation you can visit firehero.org.

Why have I never thought of this before? Booze truck!
Question to residents - thank you in advance. I am considering purchasing a 1st level...
Thank you for this, I had no idea about this type of thing. It also makes me think that...
It'll take a while. After I moved a block down the road, a friend called me a week before...
It’s a great event for a great cause. Message me with any questions. Thank PoP!
I’m excited about this event. I have done some events with them before and they are always very professional and rewarding. Plus how can you argue against this cause?
What a great idea to help out our heroes!
Sounds like a great event!
so confused. there cannot possibly be 110 flights of stairs in the hilton…
Didn’t know it went 90 stories below ground? The event is a loop. Walk up, walk down, walk up until you have completed. 10 flights at a time.
Sounds easier than it is and firefighters will do this is their turnout clothes.
oh that makes more sense… haha
Is there a time limit for completion? I’d like to do it, but I’m no marathon-er… Also, on the link it says ‘please no SCBAs.’ What are they (for my personal enrichment only, as I’m sure I don’t have any!!)?? Thanks -
SCBA stands for self-contained breathing apparatus. it’s the mask and oxygen tank that firefighters wear. divers were a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA).
It’s just compressed air in the bottle. Oxygen wouldn’t do well in a fire.
Florista, no real time limit. Its certainly not like walking a 5K, but it isn’t so overly challenging. Its supposed to be taken at your own pace. The SCBA reference is for firefighters. (AKA the Hilton doesn’t want their walls smashed in by air tanks)
Thanks, Sherlock and Joshua – had I made the SCUBA connection I’d have gotten it (duh!)…and I get why the Hilton wouldn’t want their stairwells banged up by such equipment!
Sounds great, thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a great event!
What a great event and great way to support those that help us every day!
Great idea for an event! These true heroes should be honored and remembered.
Great cause, great workout. Puts the Exorcist stairs to shame!
Sounds fantastic.
What an outstanding event for a great cause! Everyone should get out and support it!
