Whoa, looks like the former Szechuan House Restaurant located at 748 6th St, NW (just south of H) got a nice face lift and is now the Joy Luck House Chinese Bakery and Cafe.
Anyone happen to try them out?

Poorly worded description for sure. It means “bun (filled with pieces of) hot dog”.
It would be so easy to walk down the classless Marion Barry road of using negative Asian stereotypes for this ‘hot dog’ bun thing…but im going to keep it classy and just nod and smile

I might have a hot dog and bean craving every now and again but paying real life money for hot dog cut up in bread is not my idea of a good way to spend my money.
hot dog bun is exactly what it is called if you have ever been to a chinese bakery, it’s a must have item. It used to be my favorite item to get as a kid whenever we went up to new york Chinese bakeries and bakeries in hong kong. i still partake in them once in a while. its usually not cut up hot dog, its more like a bigger pig in a blanket and the blanket is soft flaky bread. the bread is key. i hope this place is good, it would be nice to see some true chinese stores and restaurants pop back up in the area.

Nice new layout and the name pops a little more. Though you’d think The Joy Luck Club would have something to say about it.
If it’s anything like the old place (which is what the menu looks like), then skip the hot food, and go straight for the baked goods. Especially when there are hand pulled noodles next door.
the place next door is a scam…the stuff in the window seems like it would be fresh and done properly but its far from it. I ordered their xiao long bao (soup dumplings), i was appalled at what came out. This place is equivalent to chinese take out. So far there is still no good chinese food in the city… it’s all in wheaton, md. I wish they would come back to the city!
Chinatown Express doens’t sell xiao ling bao. I don’t think they mean to advertise XLB, nothing on their menu calls them soup dumplings everyone just seems to call them that… they have fresk noodles, pork buns (which are more like thicker dumplings than buns) and regular (not soup_ dumplings.
The egg tarts from that place, when available, are awesome. They are the same as the ones you’d get as dessert at a dim sum place. That being said, they were out the last six or seven times I went in so I’ve given up. Perhaps they’ll be better stocked after this renovation.
Pre-reno, the place was grungy and perpetually empty. I hope business picks up and they keep the place clean.
I’ve been looking for BBQ pork buns for years. They’re house-made, fresh and blow the place around the corner out of the water. That said, great to have two new options in the neighborhood.
