Rant: Spent the whole weekend sitting in front of the computer editing wedding photos
Rave: Extra income
Rant: It’s freezing in my office.
Rave: My best friend’s coming to town next week! Taking time to hang with her and bond.
Rant: My coworker! We don’t even work in the same department, but she’s always trying to involve herself in my work. She comes in late everyday (like 11:00 to 1:00) and acts like she’s the only one in the office that has work to do, but we all know she doesn’t have enough to do. I’ve also caught her lying and trying to throw people under the bus with her lies. I don’t know how to deal with her. I can’t stand her
Sic Thomas and O’Brien on her.
I dunno, sounds like the co-worker is herself O’Brien…
Rave: Heard a bird chirping at 3 am last night and it reminded me that spring is coming.
Rant: I broke my foot recently and am having a hard time getting around and finding parking around the city. When I need to get to Foggy Bottom for classes, there’s no where to park close enough for me to be able to walk on crutches. And when I went to the police department Saturday to get my temporary visitors’ pass, they told me the handicapped parking rules changed the day before, and everything I read about the parking laws was wrong!
Rant: Netflix streaming is for crap. I’m sitting at home today, and was hoping to catch up on some newish movies I’d missed in the theaters. But no. All crap.
I cancelled Netflix this weekend for that very reason. All the movies that I wanted to watch were – DVD Only! There’s no point in the ‘Streaming Only’ service and I refuse to pay $17 for DVD & Streaming when I used to pay $8 for the same service.
You are right. Not good for new-ish movies. It is very good for shows though.
Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Rescue me, Battlestar Gallactica just to name a few. I also caught up on Parks and Rec and a few others.
I only used Netflix for shows if they’re currently off-air. Most, if not all, new shows can be found on free streaming websites. The quality isn’t as great as Netflix but the quantity of shows is larger and quite frankly I wouldn’t pay Netflix for the privilege of watching just tv shows.
The TV shows are why I just subscribed, since I don’t have cable. May still have to rely on Lamont Video on Mt. P St for movies.
Check out the library. You’ll be surprised at the selection of DVDs they have. I caught up on Mad Men and Weeds thanks to the well-stocked TenleyTown library.
I’m OK with it since I signed on before they ever had streaming movies so I consider streaming an added bonus. They still beat the pants off Blockbuster, which I continue to hate with a fiery passion for their long lines and late fees (which they would often apply because the workers at the AdMo store would neglect to retrieve videos out of the return box before the daily deadline.) It’s great for kid’s shows, Mad Men, Downton Abbey…I think the whole streaming delay is due to licensing distribution issues as the studios look to squeeze every drop of possible revenue out of a film before they provide in online for practically nothing.
Rave: Realized over the weekend that for once in a very long time my body is working the way I want and need it to. I’ve had many orthopedic injuries and surgeries and now, five months after my most recent surgery, I have no complaints
(still sore and tired when I work out really hard though!). That’s such good news!
Rant: A close family friend passed away suddenly this weekend – 19 years old and the light of her family’s life.
Rave: As frustrating and self-indulgent as facebook and social media can be sometimes, it is so wonderful to be able to reach out and connect and notify people of the loss so they can in turn call, send cards, and visit the family.
Rave: Spring is right around the corner! Spent a great afternoon relaxing in the sun on the front steps with my roommates on Saturday. Seeing tulips starting to poke out and trees starting to bud just gets me so excited for the warmer weather!
Rave/Rant: It seems like everyone in my circle of friends is undergoing some major life changes. Quitting jobs, moving, going back to school, etc. Rave because most of them are improving their lives, rant because some are moving away and because I’m feeling antsy, like I should be making my own major life changes *right now*.
Rave: Major life changes coming up in six months or so.
Rant: No private message option for those of us with accounts on here. Is that possible to implement?
Can’t you just not sign in to your account and then post something under a different name? It seems to happen a lot when people forget to sign in but maybe I misunderstood your question.
Oh, I don’t want to post anonymously, just want to send a message directly to one person. Don’t want to have to post something in the comments and hope they’ll see it and respond or try to get PoP to hook me up with their email address.
Hi Claire,
We are working on implementing private messaging for registered users. I’ll try to get an update of when it will be ready.
Thanks!
Very cool!
Hooray! Thanks!
Ah-ha, got it. Yes! That would be cool. Nice to know PoP is working on it.
I think claire is referring to the ability for registered users to contact one another privately, which I agree would be a great function. Still would like to get in touch with that person who wanted to start up a Mah Jong club.
Count me in for mah jongg as well. We used to have a group that played every Monday night, but it sorta fell apart when folks moved. Would love to do that again.
Rant: Such a long, exhausting weekend makes me feel like I didn’t have a weekend at all.
Rave: Went to bed before 9pm last night and woke up to get an early start to the week!
Rave: t – 3 weeks until my sister visits!!!!!! I’m so excited. AND it turns out she’ll be here during peak Cherry Blossom blooms, which she has never been here to see.
Rant: Woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and everyone can just bite me.
Rant: The See You Next Tuesdays at work are not helping matters.
Rave: I’m shutting my office door even if it is strongly frowned upon.
Your post made me laugh, and I know how you feel. I hope your day improves.
Rant: Feeling tired and frustrated and on the verge of being completely burned out. I really need some sort of stress-reducing rituals in my life.
Rave: Spring. I’ve gathered little bouquets of daffodils from our yard and put them in little nooks all over the house. Unfortunately, that leads me to…
Rant #2: Being totally and utterly overwhelmed by our yard. The garden plots are small and could be so pretty, but I’m dreading tackling them alone.
Rant: Mars is in retrograde, and I can really tell. I usually don’t pay attention to such things, but everyone and everything seems to be in complete upheaval.
Rave: There are glimmers of light in the madness, people are getting new jobs, getting married, moving, and all three may happen to me very soon.
oh my god. are you serious?
Rave: Yesterday was the most relaxing, unburdened day I’ve had in a while…probably all year. I had the house to myself, caught up with some tv shows, watched some sports (spring training baseball is here!) and did FOUR loads of laundry. Although I like to keep busy, it feels so good to have that every once in a while.
Rant: I already completed pretty much everything I needed to do at work today…and it’s only 11.
Rave: Lots and lots of things to look forward to in the next few months. I hope starting a new job is one of them.
Rave/Rant: I’ve found a decent number of cheap, but still nice bookcases on Craigslist…but I haven’t gotten any responses except one (no longer available). The large number of listed, reasonably priced shelves gives me hope that if I keep checking I’ll be able to snag one.
I have a bookshelf if you’re interested. Unfinished wood, so you can stain it whatever color you’d like.
Rant: Car repairs.
Rave: Kids growing fast.
Rave: Hot handy husbands
Rant: Business trips to Asia
Rave: Daffodils, school lottery success, family and friends
Rant: I guess 22 years was a good long life, for a car.
Rave: I had to write a bio for work today, which I’d been dreading, but in writing it I remembered that, oh wait, I am way more awesome than I usually give myself credit for. This is what DC does to me–I feel like everyone I know is so much busier and more Type A and more successful than I am the I forget that I am probably doing just fine myself.
Rant: Sooo much to get done before I leave town on Wednesday. But I am still procrastinating on here…
Hey there, I’ve been totally addicted to those peanut butter energy balls since you first posted about them! I’m thinking about posting about them on my blog – could you direct me to where you got the recipe from and/or should I credit you? Thanks!
Me too, Elza! Thanks a million for sharing that awesome recipe. I’m going to try it with sun butter since my wife is allergic to peanuts. I suspect it won’t be nearly as good, but I’ll let you know…
Yay!
I’ve made them with sun butter, too, and they are just as good. I added a little salt since sun butter is a bit sweeter than peanut butter.
Glad you enjoyed! Don’t credit me–I adapted the recipe from something I found on Pinterest. Looks like it originally came from: http://smashedpeasandcarrots.blogspot.com/2011/08/no-bake-energy-bites-recipe.html
rant: so much going on. job changes, possible home purchase, wondering what is right for us….
rave: stopped looking for a house. one less thing to worry about.
rave: off season beach get away this weekend?
rant: my dog’s night time barking is ramping up every night. i’m sorry, neighbors
rave: purchased a white noise machine and i’m trying to train the word ‘quiet’. praying this helps us out.
rant: after months of disagreeing on whether the gates should stay or go, i came home from a weekend out of town to find that my girlfriend has had the iron security gates removed from the front and back doors of our newly renovated home in Edgewood. Though I generally feel safe in the neighborhood, I feel safer at home and with her home alone knowing the gates are there as the first line of defense against the crazies. She says she feels like she’s locked in behind the bars. UGH!
home invasions suck
Rave: Beautiful, sunny weekend with lots of bulbs blooming!
Rant: Another online date where after the meet-up, the person realizes that they are not over their ex and are not ready to actually date. Why are these people online when they’re not ready to date and why am I always the one who makes people realize that they are still carrying around their emotional baggage? Frustrating.
Is it possible that the “I’m not over my ex” bit is really just an indirect way of saying “I’m just not that into you now that I’ve met you in person”?
That is one interpretation (not a very nice one, I may add) but usually they say really nice and flattering things and seem genuinely distraught. I haven’t been interested in these guys so it’s not wounding just a waste of time. If you are online I believe you should be ready to actually meet someone!
My comment wasn’t meant to be nasty, just frank. I did online dating for some time, and found that more often than not, the person I met online wasn’t exactly the person I ended up meeting in person (inflated descriptions, outdated photos, etc).
Keep your chin up, though! All that time dating online eventually led to the person I’m dating now. We’ve been together a year and a half, traveled, moved in together, and now we’re having the engagement ring talk
Thanks for that ray of hope, squish! Congrats to you and that person you met on-line who was ready to date!
I alwaytell people I don’t think we’re a good match if they’re not what I hoped. I never use an ex as an ex-cuse.
Can I depart from normal standards of discourse here and ask a serious, albeit politically incorrect, question? What kind of a wussy guy (wanted to use a different word) shows up on a date and starts crying to a woman about how he misses his ex?
Thank the Lord for crazy exes, or else there’d be no good ones left!
I recommend going the hot foreigner, you are too young for me but what the heck, or the sexy but shy nerd route. Engineers make good husbands.
Rant: Cat threw up 8 times this morning.
Rave: I love my cat.
Rave: The little white fluffy dog that proudly rides in his chariot (bike trailer for children). His owner must be really in touch with his manhood to pull a dog behind his bike every morning. It always makes me smile though.
I love this! I saw two the other day, one was most likely the same one you saw and other was a dog being pulled in a mini red wagon attached to the bike. Made my day.
My cat has been marking my bath mat and her play tower for a few days now for an unknown reason. Litter box is clean, and she is spayed. I feel your pain.
mine licked the remnants of my protein shake. I guess the sweet didn’t treat her tummy very well.
Could be urinary crystals. Normally well behaved kitties will start peeing other places when suffering from this. Check online to see if you think that might be what she has. And then get her to vet, they will prescribe meds and maybe change her food.
Thanks, I’ll investigate. At first I thought it was just a behavior issue, or reacting to a not-perfectly-clean litter box. After a couple of days of meticulously cleaning out the litter box after every usage, she continued. But just in the two places, presumably because she smelled her own scent. If it doesn’t stop by the weekend, I may have to take her to newly opened Atlas Vet.
Rave: Found my self in Silver Spring on Saturday and got a Hellburger at Ray’s Classics. I would put that burger up against any of the gourmet (and pricier) burgers in town.
Rant: Ripped my pants at work today, not burger related.
rant: monday again
rave: taking a mini vacation to a new city this weekend to scope it out as a potential new home
rave: discounts on prescriptions
rant: can’t sleep well lately because i’m too excited about various things in my life right now
rave: being excited about things
Rave: Vacation in three days. Barcelona for our 1 year anniversary.
Rave: Daffodils in the neighborhood and Girl Scout cookies from my coworker
Rant: The more time I spend thinking about my future and spending time with other couples, the more I realize that the person I’ve been with for over 2 years is not the best match for me long-term (as in, marriage-term). I’m not ready for marriage, but I am ready to be in a relationship that feels like it’s headed in that direction. And in the direction of babies. I KNOW I’m not ready for kids, but seeing all the Facebook pictures of friends’ babies makes me ache to be heading in that direction. But I’m terrified of the in-between (the end of this relationship, searching for someone I want to make a life with, balancing these desires with professional advancement, etc)
Man that is hard. Two people can be really great but not be meant for each other.
Enjoy Barcelona and definitely eat at Cal Pep. You have to get there an hour before opening and wait in line, but it is totally worth it.

Revel: Saw my first EA prefix on a DC plate today.
Rant: Feel like crap. Mondays.
What does it mean?
Wow, that was fast. I just saw a DZ on Saturday. I’m glad I’m not the only one who notices stuff like that.
I saw an EA like 2 months ago. At least I thought I did, the fact I hadn’t seen any more until recently, and the fact you just saw your first, leads me to believe that I may have been mistaken.
That or someone at the DMV wanted the first one and put it on his car he drives around Petworth?
It’s a mystery to me. I saw lots of DXs and DYs for months but only just recently saw my first DZ. That was followed quickly by this morning’s EA. It’s probably just chance.
I am still kicking myself for not having attempted to trade in my existing license plates for ones beginning with “DJ” when the DMV was at that point in the alphabetical sequence.
Rave: Amazing lunch today, and I get to eat it three more times this week! The hubby truly is a wonderful cook.
Rave: Lots and lots to be thankful for.
Rant: I’m ready for a new job but realized I am now in a pay range that makes it quite hard to find my salary in non-profit jobs…not sure how my skills and job experience will translate if I look outside of non-profits. Feel like I’m stuck in between too much experience and not enough…
Rant: the fire alarm went off mid-swim at WSC this afternoon. I expected it would happen at some point. It ended up being a false alarm (no surprise).
Rave: took the opportunity to try a savory crepe at the newly opened Coffy Cafe. It was delicious – and made up for my interrupted exercise.
Rant: Ran into an ex this weekend and confirmed that he is indeed still an a-hole

Happy Monday Folks. Life is unpredictable – Enjoy the moment!
