Mayorga Coffee Closes in Takoma

Thanks to a reader for sending word that Mayorga Coffee has closed its shop at 314 Carroll St NW in Takoma. The reader hears that Soupergirl could be expanding into this space but that has not been confirmed.

UPDATE: Soupergirl has confirmed they will be expanding into the Mayorga space.

Come back to your Silver Spring location! Though obviously you weren’t overly successful there either…. Maybe work on the service a bit before bothering to open again.

Wow, I literally found them just one week ago after not knowing where they moved months ago when they left the spot by East West Highway. I didn’t know they had moved, poor promotion on their part… They had great coffee, but they charged me 5.50$ for a simple Caramel Latte… Great coffee, bad business plan. Gone too soon…

I heard the same, that Soupergirl is expanding into that space from someone in the building. Their soups are excellent so I wish them the best

Supposedly Mayorga is planning on focusing more on their retail distribution of their product rather than coffee shops, so I would not be at all surprised to hear about more Mayorga locations closing over time as leases expire.

(Last time I was at Costco I saw Mayorga coffee on the shelves, so it’s certainly getting out there.)

This doesn’t mean the coffee distribution company has gone out of business though, right? Not even 10 years ago, Mayorga got so big they were selling cigars. I was psyched to discover the company had local roots and dig seeing their coffee on the store shelves. Even if the shops are done, I hope Mayorga is able to stay in business.

Hi there everyone! We too will miss the delicious coffee other offerings at
Mayorga. Which is why we’ll be soon offering coffee and tea during the morning offers. We hope to have that option available starting very soon.

Also – soon you’ll see a newly expanded Soupergirl! We’ll be slowly moving into the Mayorga space and expanding our current kitchen. We love it here and are so excited to grow in this neighborhood.

Please note – we’ll be closed from April 6-April 15 for the Jewish holiday of
Passover. Then – look forward to our Spring soup offerings!!

We’ll let you know as soon as the coffee service is ready!

Sad to see Mayorga go. It’s sad that there is no late-evening coffee option in Takoma. Hopefully Soupergirl can meet the need until a coffee place moves into the neighborhood.
