This house is located at 6108 9th St, NW:
The listing says:
“Super Charming Colonial near Safeway, Takoma Recreation Center, Brightwood Library, and Takoma Metro. Great room sizes, TWO living rooms, separate dining room, and 2nd full bath in basement (think finishing-off basement). Clean and turn key for your personal touches.”
This 3 bed/2 bath is going for $375,000.

Looks like a good deal for a detached house of good size…is that a backyard brick BBQ I see?
Seems like a decent price, but my favorite thing is that it’s right near Quackenbos St., one of the best-named streets in our fair city.
When we were in the market, we kept checking Quackenbos for listings, specifically because IT IS SO AWESOME!
George Pelecanos manages to write it into his story lines – such love for Quackenbos!
You two beat me to it. That’s exactly the first thing i was going to say. I’ve always wanted to live on Quackenbos just because of the name.
That said, i think this is a lot of house AND YARD for $375K. Obviously, it needs some updates, but definitely liveable and sweet. Great starter house, IMHO.
well that’s what I came in here to say too. I had no idea there was so much love for Quackenbos.
Maybe that’s why there’s never any listings for Quakenbos! Nobody ever wants to leave and apparently a bunch of us are ready to jump when they do! haha
I have a friend who has many Quackenbos in his family tree. Sadly, someone in recent generations married out of it, so his surname is no longer Quackenbos – but he did bestow it upon his daughter as her middle name. I’ve been jealous since I got the birth announcement (several years ago).
This place had been on the market for awhile when my wife and I were house shopping last spring. We’d expressed interest in seeing it based on the price and listing, but our realtor said “oh, you guys wouldn’t really want that house.” It sat on the market for a long time and finally sold at a cut rate. Now it’s back, and a much higher price, with seemingly no renovation done. Something is clearly not right with the house.
The realtor’s note on this house’s redfin listing says that it didn’t have A/C last summer, while the current listing says it has central A/C so… apparently some improvements have been made. The kitchen looks really narrow, which would be a turn off for me.
Our realtor told us the same thing about this house! I wonder why…
*cough*

Yes, that is odd. The realtors must know something we don’t because if I was in the market for a house in this particular area I would jump on it… wonder what it is.
Oh I think I found it… look at the listing photos. The kitchen is approximately two feet wide. Not even sure if there’s enough room to open the oven fully. I mean dang, my butt wouldn’t even fit in there!!
The “Brightwood Library”? Never heard of it. I’ve heard of the Takoma library and the Shepherd Park library, but not the Brightwood library.
Omaha, Nebraska called….they want their ugly farmhouse back!
new to the east coast? or just not get around much?
This is not the “East Coast”, it’s the Mid-Atlantic Region, and I have lived here for 10+ years – thank you very much. And yes, I am well aware most houses up that way look like they belong in a place like Omaha. Any other questions?
