Floridano Food Truck at 3301 Georgia Ave, NW
Washington Post shares the good news:
…Boillon has his reasons for signing a 10-year lease for the former Brown’s Caribbean Bakery at 3301 Georgia Ave. NW, and they start in the kitchen. The space is crammed with all manner of tantalizing equipment: pizza ovens, rotating decks ovens, industrial dough mixers, dough sheeters, dough shapers, a walk-in and much more.
He’s envisioning small plates, long braises, gourmet pizzas, Jamaican patties and other dishes.
The chef has plenty of work to do before he opens (he hopes) in mid-May.
Awesome. We’ll def. revisit as they get closer to opening. Great news for Georgia Ave!
We first learned about El Floridano food truck back in April 2010.

Ed. Note: I believe Brown’s Caribbean Bakery opened a new location further north on Georgia Ave maybe in the 5000 block but I’ll grab a photo next time I pass it.

Great food truck, will definitely check out this new location once it opens!
El Floridano is probably my favorite food truck. Stephen Boilion has created some brilliant — and fairly-priced — sandwiches, and I look forward to seeing how his culinary talents extend in other areas (although apparently he must focus on his demolition talents first). To be honest, however, the 3300 block of Georgia Ave. would seem a significantly less promising location for a restaurant — especially one depending on traffic after dark — than an area a mile north or south, or even three blocks west.
He is pioneering that block and will reap the benefits in his rent. Besides there is an apartment building going in across the st across from the Lamont Lofts and another planned for the 3300 block of Georgia and…. with the eventual (don’t hold your breath) redevelopment of Park Morton he will be sitting pretty.
This part of GA ave is like the 1800 block of 14th Street in 2000.
Park Morton project has already begun. It’s called The Avenue, at the corner of Georgia and Newton.
Tons of progress since demo started in April of last year:

The Avenue going up is not the same thing as Park Morton coming down. A step in the process for sure but not a done deal.
Can you explain what you mean here? My understanding is that The Avenue is the first phase of the Park Morton redevelopment process, and that some current residence will be moving into the building so that some of the Park Morton buildings can be demolished during the next phase. Is there any word out there that the plan has or will be changed?
What I’m saying is don’t count your chickens until there hatched. If the economy tanks, or the developer for the site tanks, or or or. It could be there for years to come.
+ “The Vue” which will bring over a 100 market rate apartments directly above Floridano in addition to new and better retail (could it be worse?)

This annoys me. He is not “pioneering” the block. There are other businesses there. He is replacing a long-time business.
He’s changing the block. But this is not a void he’s filling. It’s a wave of change that he is the tiniest bit out in front of.
Looks like Petworth/Parkview is really becoming a destination with Chez Billy, DC Reynolds, Lions and now Floridano / Mothership!
Please post an update on where Brown’s has relocated. thanks!!!
Go Parkview!! All this new development and news of Wangari Gardens makes me so happy and excited. Keep it coming.
I live nearby and am thrilled with the new businesses popping up like mushrooms. Could someone tell me exactly what are Park Morton and the Wangari Gardens? i’ve heard of Park Morton, but everyone seems to have a different idea of where it will be. Never heard of the gardens.

Thanks!
Wangari Gardens will be in the grassy spot just east of Warder, West of the hospital and between Kenyon and Irving St.
YESSSSSS
Yay for good things coming to Georgia Avenue and Park View!
For anyone who was having trouble picturing exactly where this will be, it’s Georgia NW between Lamont and Morton.
Damn shame! Brown’s had the best chicken and veggie patty’s in DC
great food truck – hopefully it will spruce up the block a bit!
I miss Brown’s.
Opening in May of which year?
Banh Mi vs. Pan con lechon. I still can’t tell which is the greatest sandwich of all time.
This is great news. He’d probablyly get a lot more foot traffic if he were located in time square, but we’ll do our best to support our new neighbor… and I miss brown’s, wish we had them both.
