Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“Olivia in Dupont Circle”

“Coco from Parkview (who has finally adjusted to Daylight Savings Time) enjoyed her first shopping spree at Annie’s Ace Hardware in Petworth this weekend.”

“My name is Fattypants and I enjoy eating pens, stepping on crotches, and barfing everywhere. I have one eye and my purring sounds like a velociraptor. I live with my two moms in Columbia Heights.”

  • I’ve only just realized that “Animal Fix” could be interpreted as a humorous double entendre.

  • Love Fatty Pants!

    Olivia looks like a Queen.

  • Aww, Coco looks like a happy dog!

  • olivia is so very gorgeous!

  • Fattypants sounds like my kind of cat.

  • em

Fattypants is a cutie! Our (blind) cat also purrs quite loudly to make up for her limited vision capabilities.

  • All three are adorable, but I love the description and name of Fattypants!

  • Who knew there could be more than one Fat(ty)pants in a city as small as DC? I know a “Mister Fatpants”. He has two eyes, though.

  • Olivia, please come home with me!

  • OMG, can we please hear about the exploits of Fattypants??

  • Love Fattypants. So cute.

One of the nicknames for one of our cats is “fatty mcbutter pants” because he’s a little too fond of the kibble.

  • We adopted Olivia from the Washington Animal Rescue League. The first time I saw her I just melted. She is greatest cat ever. (and spoiled rotten)

  • Um, Fattypants totally needs his/her own reality show and/or blog.

  • Does anyone else remember that movie, Playing By Heart? Angelina Jolie’s character had an antisocial beat-up one-eyed cat, upon whom she doted and who she insisted was “an angel”.

  • How old is Fattypants?

My cat has a bum eye, and the vet is pressuring me to have it removed, but he’s over 15 yrs old… any advice from the moms of the one-eyed cat??

    • Not sure about the impact on a 15-year old kitty, but for what it’s worth, one of our boyz, Eliot, had an eye removed when he was 10. He didn’t seem too disconcerted at all after he came home from his surgery and overnight stay at the vet. His agility and coordination were not affected at all by the loss. However, he did have to go back in for two further surgeries as his tear duct just would not quit, and the eye socket kept filling with tear fluid. The vet had done many enucleations (the official term) before, and had never seen this happen. Even after the two additional operations, the tear duct never stopped. So, every month or so, we would have to take him in for a “draining”. Eventually, the vet felt we’d seen the procedure enough times (and that we were competent enough, and the fact there were two of us – one to hold, one to handle the syringe) that we could start doing the drainings ourselves at home. So we’ve been doing that for a few years now – it’s a minor annoyance at worst. Eliot doesn’t mind terribly, especially as he gets a treat afterwards. Having said all that, bear in mind that this tear duct problem is apparently a rarity. Hope this helps.

  • Fattypants had her eye removed at when she was about a year, and in her case I think it saved her 13 years of us having to fuss with the mess that was constantly incubating in the socket (ew, sorry). If she has suffered any depth perception or other quality of life related issues because of it, I have not noticed…no tear duct issues, and she still catches the stuffed mouse mid-air like a pro.
Also, thanks to everyone who showed FP some love. She celebrated her new internet stardom by barfing on my bedroom floor while looking me right in the eye(s).
