I was psyched to learn that BakeHouse is coming to 14th and T St, NW. I emailed owner Niall Cooper for some details and she writes:
We are in the final stages of lease negotiations for a space in a new build on T street, right off 14th (behind Policy, across T St from Room and Board). The development is due for completion in the Fall, to be built by Eichberg Construction. The one-story post office is part of the same project, but our shop will be located in a new building that will be constructed in the small empty lot next door.
Our menu will consist of house-made baked goods and high quality coffees and teas. We’ll serve updated classics with modern flavor profiles.
We took part in the last the Grey DC Market, which was a great success, and we hope to do more markets over the coming months.
Sounds great. I’ll let everyone know when the next market is scheduled. They project to open in 213 days and counting. Think this’ll be a good fit for 14th and T St, NW?

Sounds fantastic. Good luck to them!
Oh that is so upsetting….bought a chocolate and ginger cupcake from them at Grey DC, almost ate the paper lining as that darn cupcake was THE BEST I have eaten in a long time.
Will need to jog to the store to work off the cupcake pounds. And I was soooo close from swearing off sugar. Hate….love…Hate you Bake House
So what does this mean for the old Post Office? If it’s part of the same project, does that mean that something is going in there as well?
OH MY GOD, THIS WILL RUIN LOGAN CIRCLE!!!! DO NOT LET T STREET BECOME THE NEXT “GEORGETOWN”!!!!!
WE WILL HAVE “CUPCAKE” WRAPPERS EVERYWHERE! PEOPLE WILL BE JACKED UP ON CAFFEINE AND RUNNING WILD!!!!!
You let caps lock ruin what would otherwise be a pretty funny comment.

We met these folks at the Grey Market. Awesome people with awesome stuff (bacon-date scone, anyone?)
Bacon-date scones??? That sounds like heaven. I’ll volunteer to help out with the construction if I can get one of those in sooner than 213 days.
Damn, and here I thought I was all original with my idea for bacon date oatmeal cookies…
I am gratified to learn that the U Street area will not become a cupcake desert notwithstanding the closure of Love Cafe. Seriously, I always welcome more purveyors of well-prepared baked goods and look forward to this establishment.
Support small local businesses!
Nice!
Dang –
this means the back alley of Rough and Ready is going to get all clean and litter free! I’m going to miss the rats
I guess it’ll just be Ready, then…
*hits self*
I hope they can survive without a liquor license. The nails aren’t even in ACKC’s coffeen yet.
The NIMBYs on Wallach Street are already counting the number of seats that they will have and equating each one to a new car driving in and taking our parking. They’re gonna try to squash this….wait and see
Wish I could disagree . . .
They will need alot of luck! One novice baker and her husband. It’s a cruel world out there.
