The huge old church at 14th and Maryland Ave, NE looks like it may finally be getting fixed up. It had been for sale last I checked but just last weekend I noticed that the very early demo appears to have started. Though, I didn’t see any dumpsters so I’m not sure how far along the plans are. But the location and property are pretty amazing so it’ll be interesting to see how the renovations turn out. Anyone hear any news/scuttlebutt about who’s coming?

It’s being redeveloped. http://frozentropics.blogspot.com/2011/07/new-mixed-use-development-at-14th.html
Is it still going to be a church?
Being replaced with condos http://hstreetgreatstreet.blogspot.com/2011/08/new-development-maia-planned-for-14th.html
It’s going to be condos, building will be called The Maia. Info and rendering here http://valordev.com/Project_details.aspx?D=14 and here http://dc.urbanturf.com/pipeline/148/The_Maia/
Like they all said – teardown.
I loved looking at their banner that said REMIX on it. I really wanted to hear some gospel(remix) coming from those huge speakers on top.
That’s a hideous building. In this case I’m glad they’re tearing it down.
TOO BAD currently property owners aren’t converting existing building & spaces into Condos. http://stmonicasdc.com/history/ in Capitol Hill, Mass Ave SE is being converted into Condo.
H St NE / Maryland Ave NE / Bladensburg area is on it’s way to getting overdeveloped and crowded. Historic District Designation could help preserve it before the Developers mess it all up.
Bullsh*t. What we need now more than ever is increased density of development. The reason rents and real estate are so expensive here in DC is because of our artificial barriers to urban density. The future of smart development (both from an economic and green/resource use perspective) is to increase density not hinder it.
I dont see much loss in the teardown of the church, the building to left is much nice, but its isolated. I would have liked a better looking apartment/condo building. Not every church is historic.
