Dear PoPville,
Just walking by this building today and again wondered what the hell is it? It’s at the intersection of 21st and New Hampshire with Ward Place off to the side, next to the Grillfish restaurant. It looks like an apt building, but on closer inspection, the front doors are practically boarded up, with no door knobs. There is no name or address on the building, yet all the windows have matching curtains and there were lights on in what appeared to be a stairwell. Is this another of DC’s “mystery” buildings?

You think that New Orleans doesn't have a sizeable homeless population? I suggest you do...
Idiots? Is that what the kids call sensible people these days?
Rant: Apartment hunting in this city is akin to Chinese water torture.
Rant: I've...
I've confronted this too. Its total BS. Next time, call 911 from your car.
While I agree, the fact that the metro system is largely closed now, in the recent past,...
A quick glance on the DC assessment database shows it’s owned by the International Monetary Fund. It’s probably used to house IMF employees visiting from abroad.
Oh that is no fun at all! I was hoping for Dr. Moreau at least.
Is it related to the hotel next door? (which says that it tailors itself to IMF and World Bank affiliates.) Maybe the buildings are adjoining and it’s easier to maintain one entrance/lobby for both buildings.
I often hear the wails of indebted nations coming from inside of it.
I’m sure it’s part of the property next door which is indeed for visiting IMF folks.
Same question about the apartment building at Independence and 7th SE, right by Eastern Market. When I used to walk by regularly, there was sometimes a TV on in a first floor apartment, but I don’t think I ever saw any lights.
That building gives me the creeps. I bet it was a really old black-and-white TV set that you’re seeing.
There is something evil in that building….something wicked.
There’s even a picture of that building’s sinister-looking entrance in the PoPville Flickr pool. We need a full investigation: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yostinator/6138243406/in/pool-837331@N24/
this is a former apartment for the IMF employees visiting from abroad. the unwelcoming main door of this building was never used because it was accessed via the building next door. The IMF is now renovating the building next door (as you can see in the photo) and they plan on disconnecting the two structures….they will then sell this building to a developer (potential for offices, condos, apartments)
MIB headquarters
ha!
C’mon–it’s part of the Concordia next door–1230-1250 New Hamsphire Ave NW.
