Judging Restaurants – Z Pizza

Back in Oct. ’11 Z Pizza opened in the old Blimpie’s space at at 8th and H St, NW in Penn Quarter. You can see their menu here. Their Web site also says:

“We combine select ingredients using award-winning skim mozzarella from Wisconsin, certified organic tomato sauce, MSG-free pepperoni, additive-free sausage, and fresh produce. Our gourmet salads and sandwiches are just as delicious.”

  • I love their Tuscan pizza. So much. I actually crave it sometimes.

  • I have enjoyed everything I’ve had there! Reasonably priced, really nice staff, and their Santa Fe is great. Lots of unique options, and good to take people with various food allergies or preferences.

  • It’s good. No-frills, reasonably priced, reasonably fresh ingredients, and you can take your vegan friends there.

    I’d rather have more of places like Z-Pizza than ho-hum “artisinal” places like Ella’s down the street.

  • Has anyone tried their Gluten Free pizza? I hope it’s good, so I can take my father-in-law this weekend!

    • My vegan friends like it quite fine.

      And I agree – it’s good for its market – i find it has gone downhill abit since opening in the area… but I expect that.

      It is a nice chain pizza place, and my omnivore, veggie and vegan friends can all get somethign they like, which is a bonus.

      • I’m dying to know the definition of chain used by PoP readers.

        Is chain codeword for restaurants I dont like, but “independent” or “nonchain” are codewords for restaurants I do like?


    • I eat their GF pizza crust. It’s not as good as the chickpea crust at Rustico and Pete’s Apizza, but they make up for it with their great toppings. The crust is very thin and a bit on the oily side, but much better than Ella’s. I like it.

  • My coworker just had the gluten free pizza today and said it was the best she’s had in DC

  • It is so good. The Mediterranean is amazing.

  • One of my friends just mentioned to me that he’d only been to the one in Silver Spring and it was kinda gross and greasy the times he had been to that one.

  • i really like the moroccan rustica style pizza

  • Anything’s got to be better than a BLIMPIES
