I was pretty surprised to see this set up at Union Station. I could understand the old Best Buy kiosks where you could buy a new set of headphones but this just seems crazy to me. I guess if your train is delayed 6 hours but can you imagine a scenario in which someone would shop at a Kohl’s department store kiosk?

what they really need at Union Station is a Redbox dispenser. Preferably one in Penn Station too…
This is a great idea!
Uh. Lots of people live and work around Union Station. We think of it as our mall.
Perhaps it is not clear from the photos – but you realize this is a computer kiosk and not an actually Kohls department store?
If you live / work near there, it would be easier to shop at Kohls.com … Why leave your place to go down to the Kiosk? Unless the internet is down and you’re seriously jonesing for the Kohls fix.
The only thing I can think of is free shipping. It might be worth it if you know you’re going to be spending a lot.
I’ve read about these and it didn’t make sense to me then either, but I guess they’re relatively inexpensive so it doesn’t take too many impulse purchases to make a few bucks.
I think the main thing is that it’s free shipping. You don’t always get that when you order online but always from the kiosk. They even have these in their own stores so that if they don’t have the item you want in stock then you can order it from the kiosk online and get it shipped for free.
free shipping is nice, but I can’t envision a scenario in which I’d pass a Kohl’s kiosk and immediately realize that I need something enough to stop everything and order it. I’ll be curious to see how this pans out.
Fulfills same purpose as an ad with added bonus that someone may immediately buy something (or mention it on their popular blog).
Bingo.
My thought when I saw them is that maybe Kohl’s is doing some market research for DC?
so I can’t buy a carpet via the slot in the middle of the machine?
I’ve passed the kiosk down in the food court numerous times and have never once seen anyone so much as glance at it.
Impulse purchases. Pure and simple.
