Your Afternoon Animal Fix – Found Dog

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

Found dog after the jump.

“Dear PoPville,

I was hoping you could help me find this sweet dog’s people… I found him walking my dogs this morning (October 19th) near my home in Park View. He came to me on on Lamont St, near the intersection of Warder St NW (near the Old Soldier’s Home). He had on a collar and was trailing a matching leash. He has clearly been well cared for and I couldn’t bare to call the humane society to pick him up until I at least tried to find his home. Any help is greatly appreciated!”

Please contact [email protected] if you know the owner of the dog. Thanks.

  • Re: Found dog — Don’t be afraid to call the Humane Society. They can scan him for a microchip, which could quickly reunited him with his owners. He looks lovely and well cared for; I’m sure someone is looking for him.

    • Exactly what I was going to say! The first place I would go, if I lost my pup isn’t PoP (no offense, of course), it’s WHS. It’s not like they’re going to take the pup and put it down! Relax!

      • (The first place I did go was WHS and they informed me it was in his best interests to not surrender him there because he is a pit mix and they are really full right now… PoP is just one of my many stops on this journey. Thanks.)

    • Thanks. I’ve had him scanned and no chip. I’ve called the Humane Society and left a found dog report (and sent pictures in with a friend who works there) – which they checked against any lost dogs reports – no matches. I’ve also placed a craigs list ad with photos. It is possible that he came in from Maryland, but so far, it does not appear that anyone is looking for him : ( Now we are switching gears and looking for someone to adopt him or foster him. While he gets along quite well with our two dogs, our two cats are not having it. Our house is simply not big enough for the menagerie! Thanks to all for your concern and any help. Desperately seeking fosters at this point.

  • ‘Rhodesian Ridgeback’ stinks of imperialism. It should be a ‘Zimbabwean Ridgeback’ in modern times

    • It also looks more like a Doberman than a Ridgeback.

      • He is 100 percent RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK.

        • I’m looking into getting a ridgeback – any advice? I’m a little worried about the amount of exercise they need especially living in an apartment without a backyard.

        • I’m not doubting it. But, I bet he is mistaken for a Doberman all the time. Unless the photo is deceiving, he looks much more like a Doberman than a Ridgeback.

          • You are correct, he is often mistaken for a Dobie, because of his liver nose, dark wheaten coat, and abnormally large size for a RR.

As for advice on RRs, they do need heavy daily exercise, but not continuously throughout the day. What I mean is that if you can get them out for a big run of some kind daily then they will generally just sack out for most of the day. I live in an apartment building and have no issues with Simba getting enough play time and exercise.

        • In this picture it does look way more doberman than ridgeback. Maybe a different picture?

        • Purebred Rhodesian’s can certainly be black and tan. They just wouldn’t be acceptable for the show ring. Simba is a cool looking dog to me.

      • Agreed. Love rescue strategies. Call it a ridgeback and it will be adopted.

        • I love all the Rhodesian Ridgeback AKC breed standard experts on this blog. You clearly know more then my dog’s breeder, his AKC papers, etc.

Simba’s owner… Is Simba neutered? If not, I have a very suitable, award-winning mate for him (my friend’s Ridgeback)… let me know if you’re interested!

  • I second what E. said. If I were looking for my pup WHS would be one of the first places I’d call. More people check there than PoP. You can always offer to foster in the case that the owners cannot be located.

  • Is Oliver hypnotized?! Such a cutie 🙂

  • Call me crazy, but wouldn’t it be more of a community service if you put the found dog *before* the jump? The likelihood that someone who may recognize it will see it is much higher that way.

  • Oliver is a cutie.
My ex (well his family) had a Ridgeback, but he did have a big yard for it.

I feel like I’m being hypnotized by Oliver… All hail hypnocat.

  • Thanks! Oliver wasn’t hypnotized exactly, but Mrs. T was probably standing behind me, dangling a cat toy of some kind to hold Oliver’s attention.

  • I much prefer Oliver Clothesoff on Sofa.

What kind of owner are you, letting any stray off the streets come and walk your dogs?

  • Is that duct tape under Oliver’s couch corner?
