Your Afternoon Animal Fix + Recommend Evening Hour Dog Walkers

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“This is Loki! We live on the cusp of Columbia Heights and Mt. Pleasant right on 16th St. the border. This is him wearing his favorite bowtie.”

And a reader asks:

“Dear PoPville,

I know we recently discussed dog walker recommendations. I’ve gone through the list of recommendations and have contacted a few of the suggested walkers or businesses. However, none seem to provide the service I need in the neighborhood where I reside. I live in Northeast, just off of North Capitol (across from Bloomingdale, south of the Hospital Center, north of Rhode Island Ave). I am looking for an evening, and primarily weekend evening, occasional dogwalker for times when I am out of town and my other half is at work. Given that his hours are 3 or 4 p.m. to approximately 4 a.m., I need to find someone who could ideally come around 8 or 9 p.m. and take the dog out for his nightly walk. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.”

    They are really nice.

They walk my dog after work but I am not sure they do it as late as you would like.

  • loki is so handsome!

  • Put some ridiculous glasses on that cat with bowtie and you’ve got a Halloween costume of your councilmember!

  • Sigh..reminds me of my childhood horse Rita. I love red roans!

  • Bowties are cool.

  • Try Mimi at: She lives in Bloomingdale.

    • I was going to suggest Mimi also. She lives on S street which is somewhat close to where you are, and services all of bloomingdale/eckington. She does all sorts of weird hours also, and has a few walkers working for her. I highly recommend! She is great with dogs, a regular dog whisperer

  • Try out Woffingdale, they have been great with our dogs both for walking and taking care of them when we are out of town. (202) 588-5612. Our dogs see their walker when we go out and they get uber excited!

  • Tori Tyree is without a doubt the best walker in the city. Hands-down. Not even close. She walks our dog, which is in the Shaw area. She also writes a weekly blog.

    • some people walk digs better than others? what are the others doing wrong?

      • Some aren’t honest, some don’t provide you info on your dog (like your dog had the runs today or was limping), some don’t walk your dog for very long which can be cheating your dog of needed mid-day fitness….etc.

so yes, some dog walkers are better than others.

    • I had a TERRIBLE experience with Tori Tyree and would never ever hire her again. If you actually want your dog walked, I would recommend anyone else.

  • Get an FWB.

  • Try Sharelle @ mamibears dot com. She is in your area. I have used her for 2 years and she is great, both for walks and for overnight care.

  • My brother and sister in law have a puppy named Loki!

  • Haven’t used them, but I’ve heard the Brookland dog walker of choice is Community Pets who knows if you can get an evening walk…

  • I live in your neck of the woods and just got fido fitness and play as a walker because we need early/late and weekend walks when we’re out of town. They seem affordable and flexible and a coworker recommended them.

  • Check Wendy @ Happytails.
    Simply the best.

  • Since I moved to Columbia Heights, I’ve used Pet Peeps for daily walks, evening feeding/walks, and for overnight sitting when I go away. I have been extremely happy with the level of service and attention given my little pup. I have even had the occasional need for last-minute walks on the weekend or in the evening and they have always come through for me EVERY time. Not only have they gotten the job done on a dime, they did it during the window I requested. Which, I didn’t necessarily expect with so little notice. They have been life (and time) savers.
We’ve been happy with all the staff but are particularly fond of our “regulars”. Megean, our walker, rocks and leaves notes in a little journal for me every day. I’ve been at home on occasion when she comes and my dog is happier to see her than she is to see me. Eric, our usual sitter, always texts with cute little quips and pics. He is so good to my girl. I have even had other people mention it. The office staff is great too – always responsive. Gus, the owner?, even juggled his schedule to accommodate meeting me within 24 hours of my first call. That was so appreciated since I had to hit the ground running the next day.
