$1625 sound right?

I mean, I wouldn’t pay it. but then again, I’m paying $1700 to live above ground in Old Town Alexandria starting next month because the subterranean places (this much and more) were so insanely coveted, I got nowhere. let’s not talk about the above ground options in DC. so is it reasonable? I guess. but come on.

  Me either. Starting Dec. I’m paying $1300 to live 7 floors above ground in a new building – wouldn’t trade it for it’s DC price range counterpart any day.

Very rarely do I ever think underground is worth it, but considering the fact that you’re far less likely to have this place broken into or be mugged on your own block, I’d say worth it, esp. given the fact that I’ve seen some above-grounds east of 16th in mice-infested buildings on the more dangerous blocks going for ~$100 less.

I’m paying $1250 (plus electric) for my ~800 sqft, one bedroom basement unit in northern CH. A/C and dishwasher, front and back entrances. Washer and dryer in shared space.

  That’s lovely, K, but these are entirely different neighborhoods. It’s about on par for the size and amenities. Although I wouldn’t want to live right on Calvert. Loud, stumbly drunkies heading to the metro on the weekends from 18th St.

    Agreed – northern Columbia Heights and Calvert Street in Adams Morgan are very different.
    
    I used to live on this block of Calvert and the noise level is very much dependent on what floor you live on and what side of the building. I lived on the third floor in the back of a building and you could never hear the drunks. Depending on where the bedroom is in this unit (i.e., if it’s towards the back of the unit), it might not be too bad.
    
    Given the size and the location, I think it’s a good deal. The apartment I used to rent was a bigger one-bedroom and not a basement unit, but the rent is $775 more per month.

I just re-read my comment and realized my statement about noise is very obvious. But it was really to point out that being on Calvert Street doesn’t necessarily damn you to a life of being woken up by screaming drunken idiots in the middle of the night.
