From an email:
“Friends of McMillan Park will host a tour of the McMillan Sand Filtration Site on Saturday October 29th from 11-3. The event is free and open to the public. This is a great opportunity to see a unique, historic site; learn about its potential development; stroll around one of the coolest green spaces in the area. It’ll be fun; wear a costume! Kids and dogs are welcome (but please watch them carefully on the site).

Do you have to be there at 11 or can you come any time between 11 and 3??
you can come anytime.
How about where people should show up? The site is pretty big. On First just north of Channing?
I second this question. Where do people meet?
Putting “5 PM” in the announcement makes it confusing. I figured out, but sheesh.
very excited to finally check this out, on halloween weekend no less!
This site should have been razed years ago.
are there any good plants that grow there? would love to get some seeds. looks like Parthenocissus quinquefolia (Virginia creeper) might be in the first picture.
Yes! I’ve always wanted to check this out, definitely going to make my way out for this (as long as it isn’t snowing…)!
Do we get to go inside it? Or just the green spaces above?
It’ll probably be canceled anyway. It’s supposed to snow, you know.
Very cool. I always wondered what that was. Rather than raze it, the underground vaulted chambers could make a great venue for something else.
A water storage structure in Istanbul of similar size and layout–the old Byzantine Basilica Cistern–has remained intact underneath the modern city. Modern orchestras and singers take advantage of its unique acoustics (and modern lighting) for concerts!

that would be a great location for a haunted house/forest.
+1
i’d love to hear some music in those catacombs.
