Back in June a reader updated us on the massive construction going on at 1737 Connecticut Ave, NW in Dupont Circle. This building was formerly home to Anna Maria’s Italian Restaurant which closed back in June ’09.
A recent liquor license application posted shares some details about the new tavern, to be called Board Room, going into the retail space:
“New Tavern. Vintage game room with jukebox. Occupancy load is 251, seating is 90.”
I’ll admit it – I’m intrigued by the vintage game room. Any guesses/suggestions on what games they’ll have?
I know I need to get over it but I’m still gonna miss the great Anna Maria’s signs…

Mat, Thanks again for your support; and your point is well taken.

There is one in Brooklyn, too. It’s awesome.
I want that Anna Maria sign.
It should be only vintage games. Parcheesi, Yahtzee, Scrabble, etc.
And hopefully the checkers/chess nerds don’t take it over. They’ll be like those laptop people in coffee shops: sitting there for hours on end, nursing a single beverage.
you know, they invented chessboxing with the idea of trying to do something intellectual while getting knocked out. what about something similar, like chess and shots?
barcade?!
maybe there is something cool going on in dupont…
I’ve always loved those signs TOO! I wish they would auction them off, I have no idea what I would do with them but open an Anna Maria Italian Restaurant, but I’d pay big money to make them alllll mine.
