Dear PoPville – What’s Up with Z Burger in Columbia Heights?

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you or any PoP readers knew about any developments with the Z burger that is supposedly going in the Tivoli building on the corner of 14th and Park Rd. in Columbia Heights. All of the signs on the building continue to say that it is opening “Summer 2011″, but now that it is October I’m beginning to wonder… All I know is I can’t wait to get my hands on a tasty Z Burger!”

I also noticed there had been a delay but when I took look last weekend the workers were out in full force. Def. still looks a few weeks out though. Stay tuned.

  • Bring me Zebra Girl!!!

  • POP! I was right by there early Sunday morning and a guy getting out of his car told me I should come by his restaurant. He said it is opening soon and that he was the owner of Z-Burger! He said there will be 100 different types of milkshakes and that there is one in Tenleytown. Can’t wait!

  • Did you notice if they kept the beautiful (and rare) ca. 1924 Cuban tile on the floor (

  • I talked with someone on the build-out team who gave me a tour last week. He expected the place to open in December. The owners are aparently opening 2-3 more at the same time and that rent had been free until now for buildout. With rent being collected there was a renewed rush to finish the space.

What is interesting is the re-configuration. Gone is the upstairs (toward the back of the place) and the space replaced with a larger first floor (expansion space taken from the next door bank) giving the layout a much more cohesive feel all on one larger first floor. Most exciting is that they plan on offering significant outdoor seating along the Giant side of the building across from the park. And yes, milkshakes for sale at the ticket booth.

  • We need a Fatburger in DC
