“Dear PoPville,
Do you know of anywhere that serves thick Italian style Hot Chocolate? I used to live in Boston and was obsessed with LA Burdicks. Since I moved to DC, I have been on an epic journey to find delicious thick Hot Chocolate. I am talking really thick, like the consistency of pudding, or molten lava, basically melted chocolate in a glass. So far the only place I have found is ACKC on 14th st. Know of any where else?”
The photo from the one at Pitango Gelato looks pretty good. Anyone know of other spots?

Locolat. The best

Buy and make at home, you won’t be sorry
Pitango’s drinking chocolate is pretty intense.
While I admire the 7th Street SE location’s decision to not sell hot beverages (it would take business away from Peregrene next door) I really wish my Pitango was doing the hot chocolate now.
Burdicks… yum! I’ve actually been disappointed by the hot chocolate at ACKC – Tangysweet offers a Valhrona drinking chocolate (or at least they used to) and Oyamel’s Mexican hot chocolate is one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten/drank. Has anyone tried the hot chocolate at Dolcezza? If the OP needs a tasting partner to find the best one, I’m totally in!
The gelato shop Splendora in Charlottesville (VA) has Italian hot chocolate, and it’s good!
I read the dog poop post before I go to this one. The picture of hot chocolate doesn’t look so appealing.
Where can I get a good Chocolate Mousse? I am addicted to the stuff after I tried it at an Italian restaurant in Laurel MD!
@Jack5, In a French woman’s kitchen is where you’ll find the best chocolate mousse. Just gotta make some more French friends!
I just want Mousse without the commitment… I’d rather pay for it despite feeling seedy afterwards!
I too have been searching long and far for REAL Italian hot chocolate. No one matches what you can get in Italy… where the chocolate leaves a layer of chocolately film on your lips because it is so thick. ACKC is no where close (though decent “american” hot chocolate.)
This makes me so sad… such an international city and yet no love for the italian hot chocolately drink.
mmm I can’t wait to try all of these places!
La Churreria Madrid on Columbia by City Bikes in Adams Morgan. It is Spanish style hot chocolate (same thing) and the churros are ridiculously good and cheap.
+1
We have our hot Italian sipping chocolate now in all three DC Pitango locations (including Capitol Hill). You can have it straight up, with steamed milk, or with a scoop of gelato. It’s all organic and super intense.
Try it and let us know what you think!
