  • Wish I could afford it. Maybe this milquetoast who bought what is a piece of gritty history should keep some of this stuff and thus some individuality? It would be nice. Glad I keep my National Press Club membership–even with the old school bartender dead, it has for real old school bar (on two levels) and there’s nothing hip-assembly line about it. Indeed, hipster members go there to escape the hip and mngle with the oldsters.
    We need that here.

  • He may be keeping the name but judging by what he is selling the interior is not even going to be remotely the same – he looks to be stripping away everything but the walls. He looks to definitely be moving it to “bistro” and away from bar which likely means moving away from “acquired over time ambience” to “buy it out of the bottle themed ambience” which is fairly typical for his ventures. I have a feeling the food will match the decor which will make it a bit too pablum-like for my taste.
