Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

  • I am impressed that you got a picture of Sinclair before he face planted in that cake.

    • I hope it wasn’t a chocolate cake.

      • Don’t panic (like I did the first time) if your dog gets hold of some chocolate. Chocolate cake isn’t going to hurt her. A chunk of unsweetened baker’s chocolate is the worst – but here are the numbers.

Using a dose of 100 mg/kg as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as:
1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate
1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate
1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker’s chocolate.

      • I made the cake myself. No chocolate. ET, the pose lasted just long enough for me to snap the picture!

  • Does Jack have the end of a squirrel in his mouth?

  • Is it a common thing for dogs to roll in dead animals? My dog has done it in dead baby birds and a dead rat (also before I could catch and stop him). I had never heard of or seen this before. Why on earth?

    • yes it is common, our dogs out in the country used to love to roll in cow poo then try to run and jump up in your lap. There are many theories all leading to the idea that it is instinctive pack behavior that do one of two things….
      1. Mask the dog’s scent so they can more easily sneak up on prey while hunting without smelling like a dog (or wolf)

      2. Picking up the scent of a live animal (via poop) or a dead yet edible animal to return to their pack and let them know they know where to find food.

I bet somewhere in the world there is a dog blog where dogs wonder why people wear clothes : )

    • Why on earth wouldn’t you? You put on cologne. Same thing!

  • Ruby looks sufficiently chastened, like she knows to never again roll in dead bird if it means a BATH!

  • Zimblestern wants to take a bat to whoever made him wear a tea shirt. He’s very cute though.

  • Oh, you’re right about that. The Zimblecat did want to go to bat over the tee-shirt. He is such a good sport.
