Jeanne D’arc missing sword in Meridian Hill Park
I’ve always loved our Jeanne D’arc statue in Meridian Hill Park (You can learn about its history and dedication in 1922 here. I couldn’t believe it when I saw an exact copy in Paris. And their statue still has it’s sword!
I think attempts have been made in the past but any volunteers to work with the French Embassy to possibly get our sword restored? If so, send me an email at princeofpetworth(at)gmail

Awesome piece of trivia that you’re not going to learn anyplace else. Thanks for keeping your eyes open, POP!
So cool! Thanks for sharing!
Well, it’s time to send the Team America back to Paris!
the images of the French statue are fantastic. What a great idea!
I am more partial to the identical super gold Joan of Arc statues that are in various cities:

So cool! And I did actually see a couple of guys with clipboards looking at our Joan a few months ago – so maybe something is in the works.
I like the fact that our statue is unique and probably has a pretty interesting story to go along with how the sword was lost. Gotta love quirks, or else everything looks like Disney World.
So can you fellas explain to me what happened to the sword? Was it stolen by vandals?
Vandals stole it during DC’s glory days – 1978.

I’m outraged that someone hasn’t replaced our Joan’s sword with a hot dog or a pool noodle or a novely massager yet.
lightsaber.
The statue in Paris is from 1895, so ours would be the copy (from 1922).
It makes sense that we would have one right? Because Joan or Jeanne, if I recall correctly, was fighting for the Dauphin of DC to repel the British during the 100 years war.
Kind of hard to live up to eh, Vince Grey?
The original sword is probably still around, either in some antique or pawn shop, or in someone’s basement.
And Paris has more than one Jeanne d’Arc statue. This is the one I know, sans cheval:
