Thanks to everyone who wrote in that Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips has opened up at 400 Florida Ave, NW. I’m actually looking forward to giving them a try.

Arthur Treacher’s would have not been my choice for this place, regardless, I am glad to see the building used productively.
So glad that mural is staying.
This seems so surreal to me.
why?
Because the idea of a chain like this taking over a muraled hovel on that corner in that neighborhood is odd. The sign, the dim neon, mixing with the pulldown security doors, security bars, and the mix of paint colors all in the context of a national fish and chips chain (odd in itself) – all odd. Not bad, but odd.
where did all the post go that were up here just a few minutes ago? It was getting so good!
Are there any good fish and chips places in DC? Should I even bother asking?
I only know of Codmother, and I haven’t heard great things about their food.
The Queen Vic has excellent Fish and Chips.
they do. plus beer.
Best is in Alexandria, Eamonds.
spelled… eamonn’s…. is the best.
no place in dc has blown me over with their fish and chips, I’m eating arthur treacher’s as I type. it’s decent, same as any fast food place or bar or irish place in the city.
eamonn’s is the best though, i wish they had one in dc.
Another vote for Eamonn’s. Love them! Hmm, could be time for a trip to Old Town this weekend. Dairy Godmother for dessert on the way back…
+1. Some of the best fish and chips stateside can be found at Eamonn’s.
I like Codmother on U Street quite a bit — more than decent fish and chips with a Guinness. Good stuff!
I like the cod platter at Irish Times.
Why is that surreal? There used to be one on 14th St. near U Street.
Get a four-piece and fries at Horace & Dickies.
Eamonds in Old Towne
bit of a walk though.
And it’s not that good, in my opinion.
Plus side for me was the portions were generous, particularly the chips (fries); interesting collection of dipping sauces – beyond the usual tartar; mushy peas – which you don’t see many places here. Downside was the fish was bland (how hard is it to add seasoning?) and very greasy, and the chips were mushy, not crisp. Wanted to like it more but I just didn’t. Having spent some time in Scotland and Ireland recently, I guess I’m a bit spoiled.
Agree with Anon. I was decidedly not blown away by Eamonn’s, especially after all the hype. Then again, I think Restaurant Eve (same owners) is also insanely overrated, so NOT worth that price point. At least Eamonn’s is cheap …
O and the best thing about arthur treachers at this spot is the korean family running it… looks like they are also offering some staple korean dishes like bulgogi, theres a bulgogi sandwich that looks pretty tasty. ill have to try it next week. I’m very excited since i work 4 doors down and im getting sick of eating red toque and beau thai everyday. not to compare them or anything but its nice to have more variety in this part of town.
this excites me
i hear boundary stone will be open for lunch, but not sure when, so that’ll be another option.
I heart bulgogi…
Ooooh… I didn’t know that. I will TOTALLY go for Korean food.
Woah, this completely changes my mind about the place . . . too bad they didn’t just do a straight-up Korean restaurant here though!
Yes, now *that* is good news!
I’m not above eating cheap franchised fish & chips. I admit it. I actually miss the one that used to be at 14th and U. Florida & 4th is a bit out of the way for me, but hey, good for them.
I wish the could have opened an Ivar’s. But wait, i’m only 3,000 miles from Puget Sound…
at least the trash on the streets will have a nice green and yellow added to the palette
go troll somewhere else.
yet you know it’s true. i live near another carroyout in this area and people are always throwing that trash on the street and in my treebox. i could troll elsewhere, but i wish the litterers would throw their trash elsewhere.
but still, i’m going to hit this place up. i just want the other patrons to treat my hood better.
“i just want the other patrons to treat my hood better.”
I have to agree. The folks that patronize the Wendy’s at Georgia and Randolph give me endless headaches, and endless trash to clean up.
this is a midwestern long john silver’s
Dang – Arthur Treacher’s opened up just as I am getting into the groove on a new diet. But maybe I can justify it since 4th & Florida is a long walk from my house – the exercise will cancel out the calories right? I want fish & chips.
I didn’t know Arthur Treacher was Korean. Forget the fish and chips crap serve up some decent Korean food in DC we are all waiting!
I will have to try the food out and hopefully its as good as the location I went to in PG County a few months ago.
very wonderful! welcom DC arthur treachers fish &chicp
i enjoyed fish french fry & bulgogi rice
i love i like ! everyone try that
YEAH. I vaguely remember the Treacher’s on 14th back in the day. There’s another one south of Alexandria that I’ve been meaning to check out but I’ll visit this one instead. Glad AT’s is still kickin it.
