Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“This is Boomer from U Street. He’s a Hemingway kitty, which explains the giant paws and opposable thumbs. He is made of magic and fairy dust and is super excited to be celebrating his mom’s 30th birthday.”

“I am afraid the picture that appeared of her gave people the wrong impression.

Zoey is a sweet dog and this picture better represents her personality (AND proves she has eyeballs).

We live in NoMa.”

The Washington Animal Rescue League is holding an adopt-a-thon this weekend. From 11 am Saturday through 8 pm Sunday adoption fees are “pay what you like.” C’mon by!

  • Boomer is very cute! I have a polydactyl cat myself- they are the greatest!

    • Thanks – yeah, I had no idea how amazing these cats were until I met Boomer. Now I’m totally hooked. (though, not to undermine the greatness of our equally adorable other kitty, calicos are also fabulous.)

      • My cats get into enough trouble with normal cat paws – I can’t imagine what they’d get into if they had thumbs! A truly terrifying prospect… Fortunately they’re cute enough to get away with it.

    • I’ve got a poly as well. He is black and as sweet as anything. Is it something about poly’s?

Poly’s always look like they have JINORMOUS paws.

    3 great portraits!

  • Is Boomer related to the Hemingway cats specifically, or were you using “Hemingway” here to mean “polydactyl”?

    • Polydactyls are synonymous with Hemingway cats. They call these guys Hemingway kitties because most of the cats that live on his house in Key West have the same mutation. Boomer could be related to one of his cats, which would explain his seemingly-unending quest to get his head into all of our cocktails, but it’s most than likely just a run of the mill mutation.

      • Speaking of relations, if Boomer is somewhere around maybe 3 years old and a former street kitty, his daddy may be living with my boyfriend. They look A LOT alike and not just because they both are orange and have thumbs. 🙂

  • I wish my Schnauzers would look so happy when I try to take their picture.

  • haha I like the other picture of Zoey! it’s very “YOU get the ball, you’re the one who threw it.”

until you mention the eyeball thing, then it looks a little creepy.

  • Boomer is a cutie! Looks like my old cat Lulu
