Update (3) on New Taqueria Coming to 11th and Lamont St, NW in Columbia Heights

I’ve been getting tons of emails from folks asking for an update on 3313 11th St, NW. For those not familiar with the project we last had an update in May ’11. At the a reader wrote in:

“Update on the vacant yellow building on 11th & Lamont (3313 11th St, NW). Jackie Greenbaum of Jackie’s and Sidebar in Silver Spring is bringing a funky Mexican cuisine to Columbia Heights. Even though the space is only 800 Sq Ft feet, it will have 24 seats downstairs, 30 seats rooftop and 20 seats outside. The menu will be simple as the kitchen will be small. Jackie also mention that there will always be a $5 margarita and plates will range from $2 to $15. She is also interested in utilizing the public gardens behind the building for restaurant use. All permits have been acquired and the building will start in the next couple of weeks with an opening some time in July or early August.”

Well obviously they won’t be opening up this month. But I’m happy to report that they were awarded their liquor license in April. Since that time design revisions have been worked on the space. It is expected for construction to begin very shortly. If all goes well they plan on opening by the end of the year.

SO pumped. I love Jackie’s, I love Sidebar, and I’m sure I’m going to love this place as well. The food at both places is amazing. I’m so excited that Jackie is bringing her talented crew of folks into the city!

  • Jackie’s, Sidebar, and Quarry House (also owned by Jackie) are all great downtown Silver Spring fixtures. I’m sure this new place won’t disappoint.

Good stuff! 11th street keeps getting better with its unique mix of places

Ms.Greenbaum is awesome. I have no doubt that this will be a quality venture.

Glad to hear they are still planning on moving forward. It seems like they are always “a few weeks” from starting the build out, but that is, annoyingly, the nature of opening a small business in D.C. between all the various regulatory hurdles you have to overcome (not to mention a very difficult climate to get financing). Can’t wait to see construction going strong, as (along with the Monroe Street park) this is the new development I am most excited for in CH. They will be packed from the get-go, believe me, once they open.

How is the progress going for Margot’s Chair a block and a half north?? Will it be open 24 hours?

  • And what about progress on the local 11, the place next door to columbia heights coffee?

  • Sad that Jackie decided to open this one in CH instead of downtown Silver Spring.

I thought the residents of this block preferred boarded-up rat palaces to any sort of commercial activity that might bring traffic around.

  • JS

I for one don’t think that the block can handle a restaurant seating 7.4% of 1000 people.

“It is expected for construction to begin very shortly.”

Is this translated from Spanish or something? It looks like somebody needs a little editing help…..:)

I’ll stop being a jackass now.

SUPER excited about this! I live at Sherman and Lamont and have always lamented the lack of GOOD Mexican food in this city. Yay Jackie!
