Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every morning at 10am.

Reader Rant:

“For a glorious week or so, both platform-to-mezzanine escalators on the 13th Street side of U Street station were actually operating, but this morning the previously broken one is back out of service (pretty frustrating for such a busy entrance). On the plus side, the service techs were actually there working on the escalator when I took this pic around 8am.”

Reader Revel:

“Summertime in Petworth, happy smiles and ice cream…”

RAVE: This is my last day of work- I put in my notice earlier this week and don’t start my new job until 22 August! Leaving me over 2 weeks of glorious free time!!!!!

Rant: Allergies are killing me. But I don’t care, because I AM OUTTA HERE IN A FEW HOURS!!!!!

  • Rant: The other day at Gallery Place, all the ball park folks filled up the platform so many couldn’t even get off the red line train to transfer to the Green Line. Amazing, not a single metro employee on hand to manage the complete mess. They really need to stage overcapacity riders somewhere other than the narrow little platform. I thought I was going to faint it was so hot and crowded. At least the lady smooshed up against me was wearing expensive perfume and not some cheap stuff. Ugh…

Rave: Headed out for a long weekend in Va. Beach – home sweet home.

Rant: Traffic between DC and VA Beach!

  • The both sets of escalators at U St. regularly break down. They’ll operate a week before being a staircase again. Luckily the station isn’t deep there.

  • Rave: Leaving boring job on Friday to go to grad school at Georgetown!!

    Rant: I’m kind of scared!!

  • Rant: Working a 13-hour day yesterday for a project that’s still not done.

Rant: Not getting to leave the office at 3 p.m. today with the others, as I will still be working on this project.

Rave: It’s Friday which makes me smile. 🙂

  • Rant: What was supposed to be a relaxing night dog sitting last night turned into an emergency trip to the vet when my brother’s puppy cut her leg.

Rave: The pup’s fine, got some sutures and a fresh dressing (I had to use paper towels and tape since my brother didn’t have a first aid kit.) Also, we had fresh perch and rockfish (caught in the Bay and South River) last night.

  • Rant: not enough bike parking @McPherson Sq Metro station.

    Revel: Today’s weather!

Rave: The book discussion thread is interesting and civilized! Well done, PoPville!

  • Rant: I’ve had such a bad week. What should have been easy turned into stress on top of stress on top of stress.

Rant: Where is my money going, why have I been so poor in the last two months? Don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t party, don’t shop…so where is my money?

Rave: Weekend is here, and I have some great plans with friends.

  • rave: last day of work

rave: going to grad school to pursue my dreams

  • Rave: Heading to the Antiques Roadshow in Atlanta this weekend. Woo-hoo!

    • Emmaleigh504

      ooh have fun!

      • Thanks, Emmaleigh! I don’t care if my “antique” is worth diddly — I just want to stalk the Keno brothers…

        Have fun with your sister!

Ha! That’s what I did when I went way back in 2000. I got both their autographs for my mom. We were really hoping her furniture would get us to talk to them, but it was gothic and they had a gothic expert so we saw him instead.

The sports memorabilia guy is fun too, I think Simeon Lipman is who I saw. He’s just fun.

Rave: Got my sister an awesome birthday present that I get to give her soon.

Rant: I tripped over it last night when I got up for some water and almost killed myself.

  • Rant: Home from a week at the beach. Now i’m out of vacation mode and back in unemployment mode. Someone please give me a job.

Rave: After almost a year of major dietary issues resulting in my gallbladder removal last month I was able to eat out every night at the beach without any issues! It was glorious.

  • Rave – I saw a cop car pull over a guy on a bikeshare bike this morning for going through a red light at 11th and F St.

  • Revel: Going on 2 week vacation to Poland!

Revel: Anywhere but the office for 2 weeks is great!

Revel: Mom is coming in September and we’ll go to the beach!

    Rant: It’s not 5:30pm yet.

  • I didn’t think I could feel any worse than I did just a week ago, but the month from hell I started in July rolled right into August. Less than a month after my mom dies, my girlfriend dumps me… It’s too damn much.

    • Emmaleigh504

      I’m sorry.

    • I’m really, really sorry. Try and stay chin up, my friend.

    • That’s a lot to take in all at once. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Make sure to take care of yourself – exercise, be outside, and eat healthy. Go see/do things that you like but your ex-girlfriend didn’t. Call up your friends, tell them you’re feeling crappy, and ask them if they want to hang out. Take care.

    • it’s not too damn much. you will survive this.
hard? hell yes. really hard. but you’ll be okay. don’t make any extreme decisions while you’re feeling this way. let yourself be sad, and let mourning take it’s course.

  • Rave: Just locked in my interest rate on my refinance. Doing a 15 year mortgage at 3.375%. Down from a 30 year mortgage at 4.5%. Difference in payment is only about 275 a month, but we will be paying an extra 650ish to principal!

Rant: Worried that the appraisal is still going to come in a little low, and may have to pay mortgage insurance for a year or two.

Rave: The houses that have been selling near my home recently have been renovated, so hoping that bodes well!

  • I hope you have some good friends and family you can count on- don’t hesitate to ask for help from others. Sorry for your loss. Take it one day at a time.
