I totally have to get some pet dragonflies… one of our neighbors must have standing water, ’cause the mosquitos are out in force.

Always wanted to go – will I need to wear bug spray?

It’s basically a large swamp so I would recommend it.

No, not necessarily. You are more likely to get bit by a mosquito in your neighborhood than at the park. Their website explains that it’s “a bug eat bug eat plant world” at the gardens. Another reason it’s such a great place! http://www.nps.gov/keaq/naturescience/insects.htm

Definitely one of the District’s hidden gems. A truly beautiful place.
Totally. Don’t forget your camera.
And as an added bonus: NO MOSQUITOES! The dragonflies really keep them in check.

The lotus flower . . . representing ‘primordial purity’ . . . of body, speech, and mind, floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire; represents the full blossoming of wholesome deeds in blissful liberation.
There is a great lily pond on bumpy oak road near Bryan’s Corner down off Indian Head. Often see artists there painting.
