When: Saturday, June 18, 2011
Time: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why: Because 826DC has served nearly 1,000 students this school year, and with your help we can serve even more next year.
Who: 826DC, the newest chapter in 826 National network of nonprofit writing centers founded by bestselling author Dave Eggers, is dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Interesting that I have read hundreds and hundreds of comments on PoP about DC, DC schools, the problems with DC’s youth, what is being done wrong, and what should be done better. Yet, a perfectly positive post about a charity fundraiser for a great organization serving DC’s students has recieved not even one comment. That is positively puzzling to me. Perhaps it serves as a perfect example of why things are the way they are in DC, and why they will not improve anytime soon…
