  • America. F*ck yeah.

  • how much does anyone want to bet it was made in China?

  • And it’s on a VW Golf.

  • Freedom isn’t free people

  • these colors don’t run. or bike.

  • Geesh, don’t these people know that displays of patriotic zeal are soooo UNCOOL??

Isn’t that just going to get all gross and covered with bugs? I thought we were supposed to respect the flag.

    • Indeed, according to some, that “flag” is being desecrated. And such fluid notions of what constitutes the U.S. flag are precisely why, when the occasional flag desecration amendment pops up in Congress, my contempt for politicians reaches another level.

      • Not to mention that the definition of desecration refers to a religious item, so if Congress tries to stop ‘desecration’ of the flag, it’s thereby establishing a religion, violating the 1st Amendment in even more ways.

    • You are and these products, nor any of the flag t shirts, shirts etc, would be acceptable to anyone who knew a thing about the proper way to display the flag.

    • Yes, but unlike a bumper sticker you can take it off and wash it!

  • that’s is a definite Flag Code violation (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/4/8.html)

I got that picture as a tweet from @RepWeinersCar

  • People in all 57 states should be able to depict out flag however they want to.

  • This person probably was at the World Cup in South Africa last summer. They were selling these type of flags all over the place. The South African version of these were on at least half the cars in Cape Town, I brought a pair back for my South African roomate to sport. Go US SOCCER today against Canada!

I just wanted to add a general rimshot to all the funny comments on this thread. “rimshot”

  • I’ll buy one of these the day they add the 51st star.

Speaking of which, why don’t we have a symbol that expresses our lack of enfranchisement? I know we have a cool flag, but we lack a frickin symbol — like the equals sign or pink triangle. Something store owners could put in their windows, people could wear on 4th of July, or could get tattooed on their arms (like so many who’ve gotten the 3 stripe/3 star flag already). Hell, you could put it on a pin like those flag pins politicians wore right after 9-11.

    • me

      You mean 2-stripe, 3-star, right?

      • Whoops, yeah. Cool looking tattoo, but if I was going to ink myself tomorrow, I’d want something that’s more specifically about enfranchisement solidarity. Ideally, something meaningful to people without much explanation.

    • Emmaleigh504

I like the star with the 51 inside it.

Why is the title of this thread “Seriously?” ?

Mini Coopers sometimes have the UK flag on the side mirrors. God forbid someone puts the US flag on theirs.

Reminds me about living in my last place- my husband and I put up a small US flag for the 4th of July and was told to take it down by building management because people complained to her that it was “offensive”. WTH.

    • Well we DO have the ugliest flag at the UN.

Re Minis with Union Jacks–it’s part of the thing–and they’re not ticky tacky COVERS.

      • Emmaleigh504

I gotta agree, I think our flag is dog ugly. I like the US and I’m proud to be a citizen and all, but I think of flag is fugly.

    • me

PoP, why was someone’s comment re: socialism beginning in 2009 erased? It wasn’t offensive.

  • I repeat – this is a soccer thing people do all over the world – the US played Spain on Saturday, not sure when PoP took the pic but I don’t think this has anything to do with the UN/rednecks/flag distortion…its about Landon Donovan, CONCACAF, and Brazil 2014.

    • me

Your post is confusing. Because someone wants to display the flag somehow (even in a somewhat tacky way), that automatically makes them a redneck?

And US soccer sucks. Chelsea FC all the way.

      • I was referring to prior comments not saying putting a flag up makes you a redneck.

And US Soccer has come a long way in the last few years, at least its improving unlike Chealsea FC which is just…well…aging.

        • me

It may not be improving cause it’s already at the top! Joking aside, the recent heyday of Jose Mourinho and Roman Abramovich will be near and dear to my heart. And I want to have Frank Lampard’s babies.

  • Actually saw the South African version of these on a bunch of cars while on vacation in Cape Town this spring, and thought out loud that that was one “patriotic” use of the American Flag I had yet to see Stateside. Guess I was just a little behind…

  • This seems pretty tame to me compared to the garish displays of flag-themed clothing that infiltrate the Mall every July 4th.

  • It is a bit cheesy but we need to have a bit more pride sometimes too… Also, I believe we can all start calling ourselves “Americans” (instead of Italian-American, African-American, Mexican-American, etc…) if we’ve been here over a generation

    • In saying this I definitely don’t insinuate that we shouldn’t embrace our own culture and heritage (which is what makes us great) but rather stop constantly separating ourselves into subsets of citizens.

  • I’m gonna rise up, I’m gonna to kick a little ass, I’m gonna to kick some ass in the U.S.A., gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a flag, gonna fly on an eagle. I’m gonna kick some butt, I’m gonna drive a big truck, I’m gonna rule this world, I’m gonna kick some ass, I’m gonna rise up, I’m gonna kick a little ass. ROCK, FLAG, and EAGLE!!

  • So just be glad you live in America. Just relax and be yourself. ‘Cause if you didn’t live here in America, you’d probably live somewhere else.

  • The worst part is that this looks like it’s on a mini cooper, where a star spangled side view mirror is actually available as an option. Of course they had to do it the ghetto way. Oh my hoodness.

  • Seems disrespectful to me. An American Flag “replica” as bug catcher.
