Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

And I’ve been getting lots of emails to remind people to vote tomorrow for the at large Council Candidate seat and state board of education seats. This is not a primary – the results will permanently fill
an at-large Council seat. List of candidates and statements are here. So don’t forget to vote tomorrow, Tues. April 26th!!!

  • Yes, please vote tomorrow! Someday it may actually count, if we keep up the fight.

  • RANT: There have been people majorly littering up the lawn at Cardozo High School… these aren’t high school kids either, they’re adults out with their babies. Last week they left tons of alcohol bottles, fast food trash, and dirty diapers all over the grass. I reported it to 311 but nothing happened. It’s so frustrating that they won’t take their trash to the public trashcan directly across the street!

    Revel: Spring!

  • Rant: The return of bidding wars to the DC housing market. I thought we’d seen the last of that a few years ago, but no.

Rave: Enjoying my first batch of homemade pesto for lunch today.

Rant: I forgot to mail my netflix movies today, so I’ll have to wait an extra day for the next disc in the series, that I’m so addicted to.

    Rave: Voting tomorrow!

  • Revel: I successfully cooked lamb stew with spring veggies for my boyfriend last night. BIG PLUS for a girl with limited cooking skills (brunt grilled cheese anyone?)

Rant: Sinus pressure of the rapidly changing weather patterns.

Rant: Shoot a baptism in NY on Sat., and I didn’t know the church was going to be illuminated only with tiny candles!

Rave: Photos look good, I’m glad I had the right lenses with me.

    • What were your strategies for dealing with the limited light?

      • pablo .raw

I had to shoot 800 and even 1600 ISO which I usually don’t do because of the noise (my camera is not good beyond 800). Regarding lenses, I had with me a 50-135mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.7 – Other than that, exhaling first and then shooting between heartbeats. I forgot the speed I was using, I believe it was something between 8 and 15.
Each person was carrying a tiny candle, and that was all the light I had!
        Thanks for asking.

  • Rant: humidity!!!!

Rave: DC Bocce on the patio at Vinoteca tonight!

  • Rant: We had a few tulips just like the ones in the picture above in our front garden, and some punk snipped them and left them to die on the sidewalk.

    Rave: The glorious weather!

  • No rants or raves from me today – just a question: Are there any endorsements out from the Washington Post or City Paper for the Council race?

I’m not sure who to vote for and feeling pretty skeptical of all the candidates…but appreciate seeing what endorsements are out there…

    • I’d like to know as well.

    • City Paper endorsed Weaver, Post endorsed Mara.

Revels: beautiful weekend including seeing friends, a movie, hiking, Yahtzee, and Bon Air park in Arlington. And I voted for the at-large seat!

Rants: I don’t want to do any of the things on my to-do list. I am stressed about moving (even though I know it’ll be great once it’s done). The store near my office stopped selling the one brand of food my picky cat eats and now I have to shlep across town to get it because also I am too much of a procrastinator to buy it online and too cheap to pay for 1-day shipping.

      • Thanks for the tips and links! The DCist article is good…if I could only make a decision. So far mainly not liking Vincent Orange, but worried that voting for Mara or Weaver could help him win!

Rave: Only one more week until my vacation!
Rant: Lots to get done before then.

Rave: I’m angling for a really substantial raise and I think I have a pretty good chance at it.
Rant: Unfortunately, my direct supervisor who I work with every day and who raves about me is not the one with the power to give me a raise.

    Rave: The weather.
    Rant: My allergies.

Rave: Overall, my life is pretty awesome!

I seriously read this and thought it was a repost of something I put up a couple weeks ago–we seem to be leading parallel lives in some ways! Also, we have the same name so it’s extra weird.

  • Rave: Second the love for Justified. Great characters, writing and perfect casting.

Rant: Pollen, pollen, pollen, combined with the heat. No relief until Thursday.

  • Rave: WE GOT THE HOUSE! WE GOT THE HOUSE! Thank you to those who were sending good thoughts!

Double Rave: Awesome Capitol Hill friends welcomed me with open arms this weekend while the husband is out of town.

Rant: Oh, summer clothes, how I detest thee!

    • Welcome to the neighborhood! 🙂 And best of luck with everything leading up to settlement.

    • Oh, and I’m with you on the summer clothes! I’m petite and it’s hard finding anything that doesn’t look babyish.

  • Rant: Just not feelin’ it today. Weather is nice but I feel uninspired. Work day better than expected but not experiencing any sense of relief as a result. Would put life on pause/mute for a few days if I could.

    Rave: No. Not right now.

  • Rave: Grad school is over for good 10 May
Rant: Still need to finish up my capstone paper and one other final paper before then and present my capstone

    Rave: I graduate 18 May
Rant: Still not employed. Anybody need a kick butt masters level social worker (no license yet) with specialized expierence in military behavioral health and trauma?

  • Rave: Federico Aubele tonight.

  • Rant: HUMIDITY. How can it be so hot and still be April? This feels like a 1975 Memorial Day weekend type of day. Spring is my favorite season here and it’s been too weird.

Rave: Loving my job today. Time was flying. Helps to have sunshine. One-shoulder bathing suits. Entire Easter outfit was second-hand. Flea market shoes were the best part.
