Prime Retail Space at Corner of 14th and Florida Ave, NW Leased to BETA Gym

We heard back in Feb. ’11 that BETA martial arts gym was looking to move into the prime space in the View 14 building at the corner of 14th of Florida Ave, NW if their fundraising goals were successful.

Looks like they were successful – from a BETA newsletter:

We are pleased to announce that BETA Academy has finally signed the lease on its new 9,000 sq.ft. facility and is now beginning the process of design and build-out of our new home. This exciting process is estimated to take 3 or 4 months. We therefore expect to move to our new location by July or August of this year. In the meantime, we appreciate your continued support and patience.

    What kind of martial arts?

  • The first lesson should be administering a one-armed guillotine choke while clutching your iPhone in the other

  • these are great people, offering a great service with great clientele.

an excellent addition to the area.

the gym has produced several (4-6) north american champions already in just two short years.

  • As a member of the BETA community, I am extremely excited about the new facility. Nak and Mel are definitely some of the nicest and most down to earth people anyone can ever meet and the addition of BETA closer to the U street corridor will be extremely beneficial to the neighborhood! Hope to see you all on the mat!

  • Hey PoP / BETA – you think you guys can score a special new membership deal for PoP readers?!?!?! (Thought I’d ask)

    • Congrats to BETA! I’ve belonged for a while and agree it’s a great workout and a really supportive environment. I’m thinking of giving up my membership though…it is an awesome place and I have unfortunately been too busy with work and other commitments to go as much as I’d like.

I’ll email PoP my contact info and if you’d like to talk about taking over my membership (so you’d get the longer-contract rate with a shorter commitment) you can ask him how to get in touch with me.

  • That’s a nice fit for the neighborhood / space. Hopefully it will have windows on the trainings to add a little more vibrancy to street life. As much as I love them, it’s nice to see more than bars and restaurants move in.
