You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this week?

  • RAVE: After more than 60 days under contract we finally closed on our first home and our own little piece of PoPville this week. Columbia Heights & Kenyon St, here we come.

mini-Rant: Not moving in until May.

  • REVEL – Going to Richmond this weekend to see my brother, eat big burgers at his restaurant – Carytown Burgers and Fries – and go to a good friend’s engagement party. Looking forward to a work-free weekend away!

Rave: My tiny balcony-garden is coming back to life.
Rave: Bumping into my sister on metro in the morning.

  • Rant: American Recovery Reinvestment Act projects blow

Rave: 3 weekds off for Grad School starting Monday. Please start planning my intervention.

  • RANT: Increasing bitterness of PoP commenters, and attacking other commenters. It is almost spring, people — lighten up!

On the fence: Running my first 5K this weekend.

    Rave: Friday!

  • Rant: people reading their own insecurities and baggage into other people’s posts.

    Rave: Weekend.

Rant: How inbred DC politics is. I mean, I’ve always known it, but it continues to amaze me.

Rave: Home repair season is here!

  • rave: been tirelessly working all week and glad to catch up on sleep over the weekend

rant: not going to go out because i will be sleeping all weekend so next week will probably feel like this week

  • Rave: trees/rose bushes/euonymus are budding, tulip bulbs are poking their tiny leaves through the dirt, AND the birds are back, chirping their little heads off!

  • Rant: Torn meniscus = surgery next week.

Semi rave: At least I have health insurance
    Semi rant: But it’s expensive

Real rave: Arugula, chard and other greens growing in my garden. Enough already for a small salad!

    • I had arthroscopic on my knee for a meniscus tear and developed blood clots a la serena williams. I had zero risk factors before the surgery, but now I can’t fly without serious risk. I’m in my early 30’s.

Please, please, please do some research on surgery related blood clots and maybe insist on cumodin/heparin as a prophylaxis. Your surgeon is going to insist that it’s very rare and you don’t have any risk factors, but that thinking is not at all on the cutting edge of medical research right now. Don’t take this decision lightly.

  • Rave: Ive lost about 25 pounds since December
Rant: Its because I have a chronic stomach condition that pretty much has reduced the number of foods i can eat to 6.

Rave: I definately needed to loose those 25 pounds.
Rant: My clothing is all too big and Buying new clothing is expensive. But I need to this weekend because i look like and unmade bed

    • There’s a bunch of thrift shops on 14th St. north of Columbia Heights now… One called Black Eyed Susie’s, 3443 14th Street, J&J Thrift Store is at 3616 14th St NW, and It’s Vintage Darling at 3423 14th Street NW.

I would also recommend Ginger Root Design at 1530 U st. NW, Basement- they can do tailoring — and make something cute out of anything– and have a lot of accessories.

    • Check out Frugalista in Mt Pleasant and Martha’s Outfitters on 14th St. (a few blocks north of U). Nice clothes for a good price.

      • +1,000 for Frugalista! Very decent selection, awesomely low thrift-store prices with male/female sections.

  • rant – still struggling with a wicked cold
rave – it was my first in over a year! I credit yoga.
semi-rave – it hit me on Monday, so I get sicktime and sleep vs losing a weekend

  • Rave: Jury duty over. Very emotional case. Peace to all my fellow jurors. Special rave for the very calm judge who made us keep at it when we were about to run screaming from the room.

  • Rave: Playing a benefit show this weekend and getting paid for it.

Road trip to Ohio next weekend.

Found out today that the national anthem for Vanuatu is called “Yumi, Yumi, Yumi.” That just makes me grin.
