The Craigslist ad says:

“Fantastic opportunity! If you are looking for a place to live, close to everything, this furnished bachelor’s unit is right for you! Space has no kitchen and is furnished.
All utilities included;
Walking distance from Mt. Vermont Sq 7th St – Convention Center (Green and Yellow lines), McPherson Square Station (Blue and Orange lines) and near cross-town/downtown buses;
Walking distance to Logan Circle, Downtown and Chinatown.
*Utilities included.
*Laundry facilities.
*Secured entrance.”

When I saw the location and asking price of $850 I thought it might be a scam. But then I saw one crucial detail – “Space has no kitchen”. But given the location – does $850 sound about right?

  • That is about the most depressing place I have ever seen.

  • Enjoy your dorm room!

    This is just about perfect, though, for a student; specifically, a Georgetown Law student.

  • Why do these rental pics from craigslist always look like potential crime scenes?

  • Wait, isn’t this the apartment from Sid and Nancy?

    Also, is the bathroom larger than the main room?

  • Honestly, I know a lot of people who really don’t use their kitchen enough to justify paying extra in rent for it. You can do a lot with a mini fridge, microwave, and bathroom sink; even more if you splurge on other small appliances like a toaster oven.

    Also, I don’t think it looks terribly despressing. Those wood floors are actually quite nice. I’m assuming it’s a studio?

  • Try and bring a girl (or guy) home to that bachelor pad and ye shall remain a bachelor for a long time.

  • How long till someone starts a fire with a hotplate in this place???

  • Not a bachelor pad but definitely a good downtown trick pad. This place is perfect for extracurricular activity -they should advertise in the Congressional Quarterly.

  • the craigslist ad refers to the area twice as “Mt. Vermon” (vermin?) and once as Mt. Vermont. oy.

  • Is it even legal to rent an apartment without a kitchen? I know rooms in houses are fine (of course) but is a kitchen required for housing?

  • what do you mean is it legal? i’d bet 90 percent of craigslist rental ads are for places that aren’t legal

  • Yeah – legal means a lot.
