Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

Photo by PoPville flickr user pablo.raw

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

Safe travels to those still on the road!

  • Rant: No snow day.
Rant: I am totally jealous of Pablo Raw’s photos. I’m curious as to what kind of camera he’s using (no doubt very expensive). I tried to no avail to take lots of shots of the moon last week.
Rave: Almost no one else in the office today.

  • Rant: there was no snow, but there is a thick layer of salt covering everything.

Rave: dead office, so I can do stuff like comment on PoP.

  • Rant: The lack of snow and high winds kicked salt in my face as i walked in the door to my office.

Rave: I am closer to closing on my condo.

  • Rave: Love DC this time of year. All the workers out of town, no traffic, plenty of parking, brilliant light.

Rant: I am not in St. Barts for the holidays!

  • Rant: brian brown (anna cooper house) didn’t gift/ give away the universal machine or his junk furniture occupying his 2nd street-facing porch.

Rant: Dry roads + loads of rock salt + strong winds + passing bus = getting peppered in the face and mouth with painful, nasty rock salt first thing in the morning.

Rave: Metro was nearly empty this morning which makes the wee hours of a post-holiday Monday morning a lot easier to cope with.

  • Freakin still stranded in South Carolina because US Air puts profits befor customers. Sunday flight cancled and next flight open is Tuesday. Joy Joy

no snow here or in dc, yet flights cancled, hummmmmmmmm

    Rant: no snow day
    Rave: no snow
    Rave: short work week

Do most people have this Friday off?

      • All feds do.

      • it’s a federal holiday (since New Year’s Day is a Saturday) so federal employees and everyone who follows the fed schedule (like my org!) is free!

        my rants/revels:
        a) I got to go to Arizona with my family and came home before any flight cancellations, but a week is too long to spend with my family. I like them, and me, less, when we’re together that much.

        b) big work project is forcing me to use my brain! I think the project’s coming out well but I am tired of thinking.

        c) gf is still away…but coming home tomorrow and we’re going to NY for New Year’s!

  • Rant: Can’t seem to fall for a perfectly good man.

Rave: Bright sun pouring through windows on a wintry day off.

  • Rant: flight cancelled and they rebooked me on a 6 a.m. flight tomorrow morning (and I spent extra money in order to avoid an early flight when I bought the ticket)

Rave: an extra day with the fam 🙂

    +1 to a having a Pablo crush!

  • Rant: Redskins Kool Aid drinkers–one OT victory against the mighty, mighty, er…Jaguars and now the Shanahans are saviors? These fans got the owner and team they deserve. I even had to remind a couple of zealots (oldtimers, indeed) that Vince Lombardi–yes, the Vince Lombardi–came here to coach the team outof the cellar; the Lombardi Cancer research Center at Georgetown U.is named after him.
Rave: The Ravens are right up the B-W Parkway

  • Rave: Sweet window renovation – my 75 year old windows have been refurbished, reinstalled and are better than new. Very happy with how they turned out.

More rave: Vacation till next week, extra time with the family, good home cooking 🙂

  • @MPinDC who did you use? The wind is seeping through my 83 year old windows and enough is enough. I’m tired of putting up plastic every year.

Rave: Pablo Raw, I’m speechless at the beauty and clarity.

  • Rant: Why have no new stores opened at the intersection of GA ave. and New Hampshire? Is the rent too damn high? That coffee shop has been taking forever to open. Not enough transparency in the process…

Rave: I’m trying hard but couldn’t come up with anything.

I think you can get the camera information and Exif data on flickr. I’ll be more than happy to explain about the “perfect timing” some day when I’m back in DC. Basically you need the moonrise time and google earth
Rave: it’s 80 degrees in here!
