    Rant: none!

  • Rave: snow!
    Rant: snow!

  • Petty rant: People who walk on my yoga mat. I bring my own mat so I don’t have my face in someone else’s sweat or dirty feet. It’s not so hard to step over or around.

Another petty rant: Gum snapping in close quarters (bus, metro, standing in line. Why is it primarily African American women who crack their gum?

  • Rave: The snow was pretty today!

Rave: Found the Yule Log video on Comcast cable today!

Rant: No promising first date tonight : (

  • Rant: lines at McDonald’s in the hood.

  • Rant:

Got the first water bill on Monday for a home I bought in Columbia Heights 2 months ago that has been unoccupied and gutted since. No toilets, no sinks, no water pipes in the house at all. Bill was for 35,000 gallons of water. Too bad I don’t have a swimming pool.

Was told DCWater couldn’t come out for two days, then they stood me up on our prearranged appt. Was told they were there earlier in the day but for some reason couldn’t turn off the water at the meter and they weren’t going to come back for a week (daily water loss had increased to ~800 gallons a day at that point).

I think the problem is with their meter. I have a tiny rowhouse with a tiny front yard and you think if ~35K gallons of water had leaked into my yard over the past coupdl months there would be some sign of it.

A dozen calls and a dozen conversations with a bunch of surly DCWater employees who don’t seem to know anything, don’t follow up as they promise and have a tendency to hang up on you if you ask to speak to a supervisor and I am no further ahead than I was last week.

Rave…no rave, the entire week has sucked.

    • Call Jim Graham and local news. They love stories like this.

    • I feel your pain. I’ve had all sorts of problems with DC Water, primarily their billing. They tried to stick me for +$300 of fees for which I wasn’t responsible. I sent an e-mail to my councilman (Bowser) documenting all that had transpired. One of her guys quickly responded, stated he’d look into it, and got back to me the same day with a resolution. Basically, they waived the charges, based on my correspondence and records. When it gets to be enough, send a note to your councilman. They’re used to these antics and know how to crack the whip.

  • Rant: I’ve fallen pretty hard for a guy I’m dating but I’m getting the impression the feeling is not mutual. #sadface

Rave: The company Christmas party last night.

  • Rant: I’m losing the BEST room mate Ever!!

  • Rant: Senate Republicans killing 9/11 rescue workers bill (I thought Ground Zero was sacred ground…hell no, no mosque don’t there, right?)

Rave: TSA stops a guy at Dulles bringing illegal elephant parts/endangered species, other parts. Witchdoctor bag, basically. So all those pat-downs mean something…

  • Rave: Owners of the Miss Ann hooked us up with very special discount pricing for our Annual Social for our Professional Society. Nice seeing classmates and co-workers on board last night for the festivities.

Rant: Wish I could take a first date out for the Miss Ann weekly Friday night cruise tonight! The boat is all decked out in lights, very romantic. (just teasing honey)

    • More info about the weekly Friday night cruise, please!! I just looked at the website and couldn’t find anything … would love to surprise the BF with a cruise post-holiday 🙂

  • Petty rant: Yesterday morning while walking to the Petworth metro I saw a small strawberry blonde woman with sassy boots get out of her car on NH Ave, shut the door, walk the block or so to the metro and (presumably) go to work for the day. I saw a young guy do the same thing about a month ago. So are these people really driving from somewhere and parking their cars in front of other people’s houses all day while they take the metro to work? I don’t suppose that’s illegal or even a terribly big deal, but it rubs me the wrong way a bit. Can’t they walk, bike, or take the bus to the metro? There’s no park-and-ride in Petworth. Maybe that was her car parked in front of her house and she just grabbed something out of it on her way. I don’t know.

Potential Revel: Maybe there’s a logical explanation.

  • Rave: Taking the gf and her kids out for a nice meal Sunday, probably in Chinatown/Penn Quarter. And we’ll probably go to the holiday market and portrait gallery first.

Rant: It’s supposed to rain that day.

  • Rant. Gout and a nasty fever making a winning combination.

Rave. Near the point of hallucination.

  • Rave: awesome connection with date last night
Rave 2: seeing awesome friend tonight
    Rave 3: the word “awesome”

    (no rants)

  • Rant: The freezing cold weather has me all bummed out.
Rave: Awesome boyfriend is putting up with my grumpiness.

  • Rant: Walked to work this morning as usual in sweat pants. Thought I had packed my Friday-only bluejeans. Got ready to change in the bathoom – no bluejeans!!! Had to catch a cab home and get the jeans, then a cab back to work. Wasted $20 because of it. My Friday stupid tax!

Rave: Checked my bank balance and found out that I got a $450 Christmas bonus from my part-time job!! Now if I can only hold on to it until February when I hope to go to Jamaica.

  • Rant: The guy I’ve been dating breaks our plans to hang out on Saturday due to an upcoming trip to NYC that has “been planned for months”.

Rave: I’m free to mingle this weekend!

Rant: I haven’t gone on a “date” in over a year.

Rave: I’m damn thankful that I’m single, this city has some scary females in it.

    • HA!

Complain about us women when you’ve been on dates with an alcoholic in denial, a chef who used to be a drug runner, and someone who’s married with a pregnant spouse and then you can call us scary. Works both ways, pal.

  • Rant: the national political mess

    Rave: Snow
Rave2: Indoor heating for when I’m tired of enjoying snow

  • Rant: Am I the only one who HATED that facebook story in the Post today? Hello, incredibly annoying oversharers.

    • You are completely not the only one. I mean, of course this woman’s story is incredibly sad, but the story really annoys me, too. And I would say my annoyance is bordering on hatred.

      • I didn’t even consider reading it – yes tragic – but I got the whole “ask not for whom the bell tolls” thing down by now . . .

  • Rant: Have been applying for new jobs for nearly 4 months. Keep getting to final cut and losing out, or getting told that I’m overqualified. Tired of being stuck in the middle.

Rave: Picked up an AWESOME seasonal job in retail to keep me occupied. Best work environment I’ve ever been in. Who knows, 14 years experience + graduate degree might = completely unrelated but fabulous career in retail.

Rave: Fabulous husband hasn’t disowned me, and adorable nephew comes to visit this weekend!

Arrest Made in the Homicide of Prince Okorie

(Washington, DC) Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced today that an arrest has been made in the homicide of 16 year-old Prince Okorie.

On Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at approximately 4:20 pm, units from the Fourth District responded to the 800 block of Delafield Place, NW to investigate the sounds of gunshots. Upon their arrival they located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where the victim was pronounced dead.

On Friday, December 10, 2010, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 20 year old Raymond Roseboro of Northwest, DC and charged him with Murder Two While Armed pursuant to an arrest warrant in the shooting death of Prince Okorie.

“This homicide occurred on an afternoon on a residential street,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. “Members of the community offered information and have been anxious to see this case come to a closure. Our communities have spoken – this city is not a place where you can get away with murder.”

NBC Washington is reporting that Prince Okorie may have been killed for snitching in the Neil Godleski case. Very sad.

      • Anonymous pointed this out on the 5th in the Weekend Crime update. I wondered at the time if this was what that comment was about. Anybody else curious?
