8th Street Bar & Grill coming to Barracks Row

More excitement for new bars/restaurants coming to Barracks Row and Capitol Hill. The current Capitol Hill Sports Goods and Apparel located at 727 8th St, SE will become 8th Street Bar & Grill according to an alcohol application permit. It sounds promising:

“New Tavern with American cuisine, dancing and five piece bands playing Jazz, Blues, Rock & Roll. Seating capacity is 66. Total occupancy load is 66. Sidewalk Café with seating for 6.”

  • The music element sound nice 🙂 I just wish we had more retail on that part of the Hill. A clothing store would be nice!!

  • As I wrote yesterday on the Hill is Home, I will be shocked if the ANC allows this as written. They’ve never been a fan of tavern licenses – let alone live music – and now they’re tossing around the idea of a liquor license moratorium.

I wish them luck and hope it happens, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

  • Good riddance to that sports store. It had virtually no inventory and you had to be buzzed in. It’s eight blocks from Nats Park, and ZERO nats gear.

    • I liked that sports store. As small places like that vanish we have to go farther and farther away just to pick up basic items like tennis balls, etc. True they didn’t have the world’s largest selection, but it was convenient for Hill residents who don’t feel like braving the mobs at Target or schlepping all the way out to the suburbs. I have been there multiple times and never had to be buzzed in– in fact, I think they often had their door propped open on nice days.

If you want Nats gear, go to the team store in the stadium, they’ll have a bigger selection anyway. Like you say, it’s only 8 blocks away. Maybe that’s part of the reason they didn’t bother stocking much Nats gear.
